Hey guys,
I'm having a problem with pitch black spots happening in certain spots in my map. It seems to be at the very edges of the map, near the sky box.

Here are some pics of the map i'm working on, and where it's happening:

It only seems to happen on that func_wall transparent crane texture. If I go just a little bit over onto another crane texture (not a func_wall) then the lighting goes back to normal. I also placed 2 very bright lights right where i'm standing, so I should be lit, however i'm still pitch black :(

Lastly, the same texture high above near the top of the map doesn't produce that same effect, I am bright like normal.
Any suggestions or know why this is happening?
Cheers!

interesting
i know this problem before but never heard what needed to do

i don't know, but you can try something
make a brush with "invisible" texture to inside that crane
or make a wall (blue-invisible) and insert it to crane
remember you need walk on that wall not crane object
maybe it can solve the problem

i think it happens because there is no "ground object"
so it think you are in the out of the world something..

Models are lit by using brightness and color values from the surface beneath them. But they only can take it from world brushes, they can't take it from brush entities. And since there is no ground beneath your bridge, the model don't have where to take those values and thus is pitch black. If you would have ground (road, sidewalk or something) instead of sky then your models would take the values from it. You can also try to put a NULL brush inside the bridge.

Sometimes I encountered this issue when I accidently had func_walls on the

Check for different funcs nearby perhaps it is the same situation for you.

Thanks guys,
Dragos was right, it was because there was no world brush anywhere underneath the func_walls. I placed some and that solved the lighting issue. Thanks a lot!

Those 2 screens make me think of Unreal Tournament.

Mmmmmm the low gravity rooftop level where al you gotta do is lock onto someone and the rocket launcher will hit them from across the map. Good times
