Ok.

We did so well on the first one, and people seem to be interested in doing this again, so:

Team Mapping 2
Same as before, the idea behind this is to all join our mapping skill to quickly turn out a near-to-professional-quality map we can, in a short amount of time, though we agree not to rush or agonize about this, it is above all for fun ;)

NO set deadlines, NO set responsibilities, though i encourage EVERYONE to step up in a leadership role , especially when the opportunity presents itself, i.e. you have an awesome idea at something you know your good at and would benefit/enrich the mod.

can someone experienced with dropbox or similar set us up, so we have a common place to share content right away?

it's whatever we all want it to be, maybe it's more than one thing, so i'm sorry i interchanged those terms, but you bring up a good point ;)

i know what i'd like to do and what my vision of the project should be, but maybe you-all have a more-funner idea, so this is brainstorming time people.

I'd love to do a csgo project like Blitzachu and i were shoutboxing, but i'm down for anything.

Upon thinking more, personally, i like the idea of "map" more, just because it implies less commitment and a fast time-to-completion, but either way.. :)

A CSGO map would certainly be the obvious choice. +1 for that.

Fair enough. I also vote CSGO map. I don't know how involved I can be though since I only have the Beta version.

How come you have the beta version? It's been released.
I vote too for CS:GO, and contrary to what CT said, I say we shouldn't map "asap", instead we should take our time. Especially now when college is coming, and some of us still aren't around the forums.

rufee: it's gonna be csgo looks like, at least for this one, but i'm sure we'll do this again, and i wouldn't count out anything for future projects, even goldsource to do some retro thing, who knows :)

I vote CSGO as well, seems the obvious choice.

I'm pretty adamant that no mapping at all should happen until we have sorted out our vision of the map before hand. That means layout, a collection of reference images, I'm sure some of us can bang out some concept pics of the map using the references once we have the layout down too.

Obviously changes will be made once we get started, that's inevitable. I also really don't think anyone should make any sudden major additions (new buildings or areas) without throwing their idea out in the thread here.

Last time I think we got a really good taste of people's strong points. We should look at that to see who fits what roles best (maybe Archie should be nominated the "lighting lead" for example). Perhaps we could persuade Rimrook to guide us in the right direction with the layout.

Just my two cents.

Indeed Blitzenclaus, we need to plan the f out of this, since the last one was more a free-range approach :)

No matter what archie does, it's gonna be good, i'm just saying, but yeah.

I nominate skals/stojke to handle the layout right off the bat, since they did such a wonderful job on skals c31 map.

BTW, what is everyone thinking for a theme? should we do a classic map that hasn't been offered by CSGO yet--like cs_assault--, or make something completely new?

In response to your last question CT, I definitely think this map should be original. That being said, an asymmetrical assault-a-fort type hostage map would be my vote, in the vein of cs_assault or cs_militia or cs_miami. Those are the most fun in my opinion, and seeing as CS finally has halftime built right into the game I think a kickass asymmetrical map would be very nice.

urby is the beta still working now after the official release?

if no, you can still edit all your work in cs:s hammer; your work will have to be recompiled in csgo, but no biggie ;)

Ok, me and Stojke can do the layout. Stojke here probably being the biggest cs freak out of anyone.

We need a theme, ideas for buildings, you know that kind of thing.

Assault theme sounds nice to me, and asymmetrical is good too, with team swap I agree that having slightly unbalanced sides will do no harm.

Let's just first vote on a proper theme before we start making anything. We need a country/location, style of building etc. Also some reference images of the theme that has been chosen will be of great help too.

Theme is a toughie i'm coming up blank for ideas for that... i'm gonna image random locations and see if any ideas come :)

I love the original assault industrial/city theme, but i know we want to be original..

May I propose something along the lines of Urban debris, perhaps some abandoned Russian block styled buildings, that type of thing if you can imagine, and the terrorists are using these abandoned buildings as hideout, and have placed the hostages there. That could be a pretty good theme for a hostage/rescue map.
The way I am imagining it is, on the outskirts of a somewhat large city somewhere in either Russia or eastern Europe (where the Russian block buildings are common), there is a set of abandoned concrete buildings, it's not a big open area, instead imagine something like assault where it's surrounded by tall buildings, and the fighting takes inbetween them and inside some of the buildings.

If anyone doesn't know what I mean by Russian Block houses, this is what I mean:

Imagine the first and second floors being accessible, and the players could have a shootout in between the two buildings, with the hostages having to go across from one building to the other through that hot spot.

Of course this theme is quite realistic, because it's very common for the Communists to abandon one of these buildings half-built as they move on to a different area, so there are a lot of them empty all over Eastern Europe.

It's just one idea. If y'all guys don't want to map something like this, that's fine. Just putting idea number.1 across. Keep the ideas coming!

Mmm, a map like cs_estate, except unlike every version of cs_estate ever we make it so the gameplay doesn't suck! I like that idea more than the abandoned flats - they feel too Modern Warfare-ish

I like the estate idea. I also like the idea of setting it in the evening or really early morning. Early early morning tends to be when raids are done (I would know, I stayed over at a house that had a warrant served the next day. I was the first one they got. Woke up to being handcuffed....

Anyways, perhaps the estate could have a small guest house or two on the property, like this:

This one really has the colors/evening or early setting I'm imagining. I think it's really pretty.

IKR about the angles. Also it's so pretty. Much more interesting to both design and play in than some decaying buildings I think.

Cool, I bet we could draw from some of the architecture. Even if the estate itself ends up being modern, the architect that designed it could've been a big fan of medieval architecture.

That last pic I posted was just a lighting suggestion/example of a tropical setting. Doesn't have to look like that.

Also those bricks are really cool I think.

Sure, was staying with a friend who shared an apartment with three people who went to the same school. Apparently one of the kids was selling pot, and some dickhead who had a problem with him I guess tipped off the police.

I just by chance picked the wrong night to be there is all, they sent all the rest of us on our ways within 20 minutes or so and they even apologized for the inconvenience. I got handcuffed "for my safety and for yours" until they sorted out who was who. No biggie.

I like the idea of an estate early in the morning, could get some ultra sexy hdr lighting in there.

Be careful with that theme though, cause CS:GO already has one estate like map, although it is quite different from this idea. We can do something very similar to estate from cs1.6, where you can access all of the estate plus the garden area around it and slightly outside of it.

A castle theme would be very nice too. Actually I would prefer it. But where will you pull the reference images? :P
