Oh shit. Atom saw all the nekkid pix I exchanged with Volpe!

...speaking of, I'd like to thank her for helping with the construction of the Cube. It would have taken longer without her.

Obviously as much of the community we can get in on the deal as possible would be best, but there's no point waiting forever.

I have a pretty hard week ahead, I won't be on a lot.

I tried to log into the server several times now and I keep getting a Read Timeout exception or other various errors. Are others getting this too?
Posted 10 years ago2013-11-16 23:44:55 UTC Post #316795
I'm having that problem too.
Posted 10 years ago2013-11-17 01:19:14 UTC Post #316796
Yes, something is lagging the server, the logs are full of these:
[16:23:01] [Server thread/WARN]: Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded? Running 2750ms behind, skipping 55 tick(s)

[16:26:06] [Server thread/WARN]: Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded? Running 2332ms behind, skipping 46 tick(s)
Like, hundreds of them. Eventually the server can't handle... whatever it is any more, and causes an out of memory exception.

Not sure what to do about it.

It's not only the chickens. I've come across several cattle farms with hundreds of cows in a space no bigger than 10x10 blocks. If I went in and took out 3/4 of them I'd walk out with several stacks of leather and beef and there'd still be more than too many.

Would it be any of my redstone doors? None of them switch until a player switches them but they do have active redstone to hold a state.

I've been trying but I can't get on the server due to read timeouts.

If anyone else is on the server, can you try breaking the redstone torches in my secret vault (accessible from inside via the maintenance room) and the redstone torches on my front gate (accessible by digging directly down from just in front of the gate on the outside).

Seems to be alright now.

//Edit:

I've been working on a main square. It's next to the nether portal at spawn, right in front of Volpe's enchantment house. There are a bunch of chests there, next to the flowers, to whoever the owner is, may I move them a bit further away to build something there? I haven't yet decided whether it will be the TWHL Hotel (rooms for travelers) or the TWHL Bank (a SAFE for everyone to use).

There will also be a Tourist Information booth, for which I'll be compiling a list of landmarks with directions from spawn, and a list of players with directions to their main residence (suggestion: have a mailbox, those who don't!). Anyone who would like to be listed in the landmarks list or residents list just post here the coords to the place and if needed, directions on how to get there. There may be maps too.

To Scotch: If you move your stairs 1 block to the North, they'd align perfectly with the square AND the creeper head.

I won't be able to join in then, as I will be studying for my upcoming exams, so go without me as well.

Although considering the size of my death counter, that probably won't be any great loss for you.

There will.

I had an idea. I'm going to set up a Christmas tree at the town square, under which everyone can leave presents. The chests are automatically re-skinned as gift-wrapped around Christmas.

I was thinking that to prevent people from opening them early, maybe Atom could set up a server-side password plugin (I'm thinking lwc) and then we PM the passwords to people the night before, but I remembered modders haven't yet figured out 1.7 :/

I'm also going to make some firework for New Years
Posted 10 years ago2013-12-05 14:32:17 UTC Post #316995
I have never messed with server plugins before, but MCP 1.7 is still being worked on and so is ModLoader and whatnot.

So I'm not sure if I can get to all that.

But nonetheless it's a good idea to do Xmas gifts, Mindcrack does it, so why not do the same on our server.

I have a little experience with plugins and mods, but until there are stable releases for 1.7.2 (or 1.7.3, which I believe will be released next week) there's not much we can do with it.

[EDIT] I can't find on their wiki the texture pack page anymore. Yes I know they're called resource packs now but... where's the list?

A new world render is up!
It's a flat top-down render, interactive 3D renders with adjustable zoom levels are no longer feasible due to the world size.

I can't see it in Chrome and when I download the image and open it w/ my image viewer on Ubuntu, the viewer crashes.

Works fine for me, although Firefox slows down while trying to load the image, but doesn't crash for me.

Try downloading the image to disc, then open it, if you're on Windows, in the default Windows viewer for images.

That's what I did on Ubuntu, Right Click < Save As. I was able to load it in GIMP, but it took 5 min and the program stopped responding during that time.

The file is so big, programs have a hard time handling it. I was doing a little editing to determine a destination, and the program would stop responding for a few seconds to perform it.

Yeah it takes quite a bit to load. It works here but it freezes Firefox for a good 30 seconds every time I switch to that tab. It's a huge file.

[edit] also the "hourly stats" image doesn't really display an image. And if you try to open it separately it just takes you to a login page.
Posted 10 years ago2014-01-09 16:39:32 UTC Post #317450
I can try saving as jpg instead of png, but then the transparent parts of the image will become solid.

Scratch that.

The hourly stats image works fine for me, but that probably because I'm logged in on the ClanForge site.

The server appears to be dying. I know some people don't like the extra large biomes because it's very difficult to find the new biomes.

To get people back in the game, I'm going to place a small... pedistal or some sort with a button. Or perhaps more buttons. When clicked, it will teleport you to one of the new biomes introduced in 1.7. I know the Ice Spikes biomes has already been found but there are more.

Let me know which biome you'd like to see and explore in the server.

You'd probably have to bump the version back to 1.6.4, seeing as there are no stable releases of any mods since then.

That said, I like Railcraft and Computercraft.

For those who don't know them, Railcraft adds to the transportation side of things. You get track junctions and switches, some fantastic control tracks, the ability to link up minecarts turning them into actual trains and put a locomotive in front, or signalling for a greater order in a rail network. Computercraft adds programmable computers that can interact with redstone (Project Red might be a good addition to it with its bundled cables, replacing RedPower) and Turtles, a sort of computer that can also move around by itself, break or place blocks, etc. There are also printers and networks and stuff.

Or if you'd rather go for something exotic but not too outlandish, Dimensional Doors. It adds some mysterious-looking doors to world generation that take you to pocket dimensions full of unknown. You can also make them yourself and they take you to an empty personal dimension full of void. It's supposedly at beta stage but I think it's pretty stable.

Or maybe Galacticraft, if you want to have a TWHL space program. You can go to the moon or mars or set up a space station.

I was going to suggest Modular Powersuits too but it hasn't been updated since 1.5.2.

I'm not suggesting to have ALL of them, these are just the mods I've played or read about lately that look really interesting but not too over the top like some I've seen (the FTB pack comes to mind). This should give people some ideas :)
