Just wondering why hardly any1 uploads rmf files in the map vault section of the website. Wouldn't it be helpful for others to see finished or unfinished maps in rmf? I don't see why you should care if some1 else copies your map because copying your map would be pointless.

People could rip-off your map, call ti theirs, and spread it through their server. Then the people who got it from him/her wouldnt be able to get the real one because they already have the ripped off map and an error message would come up saying : "ERROR: Your coolfat3459's_map differes from server" or something like that.

Copying would most certainly NOT be pointless....

Hey well that's a shame because I'd like to see how alot of people make their maps.

Few choose to give away the source of the map. They don't have to and I'm fine with that. You'll learn how to map by reading tutorials and articles but above all just doing it. When you really want to find out how someone made a specific thing, you can e-mail them or contact them otherwise.

After all, I don't upload my maps to learn others but to let them play it. When I decide to help others it's usually in the form of forum posts and sometimes I write tutorials that I often attach example .rmf's to.

But I get your point, as you want to learn from experienced mappers and look at how they construct their levels. But when you gain experience troughout time you'll eventually find out what's good and what's not. I also think you can learn by looking at the level in the game too.

As for copying, that's not really a concern for me but indeed, I wouldn't like it when someone else uses my map as if it was his own. I mean, sometimes I work for months on a map...

hefsys: I'm all for that sorta open-source feel. I can't see why pro mappers are scared someone'd rip their map off. If you're that good, then they can't make it any better. If you're that good then everyone'll know what your work is and will spot rip-offs.

I always release my RMFs. Then again, I haven't made any full-release maps except for the Trapped competition entry (winner ;) )

You could try the example maps section of the vault, maybe, or ask how an effect is achieved in the forums here (after thinking about it yourself first please).
