Hi guys,

Well as you all probably guessed I'm new at this and would appreciate any feedback you all could give me.

I've been trying to figure out how to make maps for Counter Strike and I seem to have all the basics down thus far except the textures area. When I compile them, using Zoner's, the textures that I thought I had applied to the ground appeared on the wall and those on the wall appeared on the ceiling and so forth.

Which brings me to this question. In the Hammer Map Editing Program there are 4 views, and in tutorials that I read that have pics, they always show the textures applied directly in the camera view. Mine however just hasa simple outline of my brushes and has no visible textures on it. Does anyone know how toget these textures to appear in your camera view? If you could please help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
-Koozie (A struggling newb)

Click that 'camera' text and select 3D textured.

is that snippet of information in any of the 'setting up hammer' tutorials?
i've seen it asked alot..

No it isn't... I don't think. I will add it if I get a chance, but when we wrote the tutorials we assumed that people would read the Hammer Help file, it contains heaps of info on setup and tools....

People don't read help files now do they? :-(

Not when they've got our tutorials ;)

Nah, they're still helpfull, tutorials or no tutorials...

I just read trough the help files again and yes, I just saw something I didn't know of before... pressing the 'o' key while Clipping a brush displays the lenght of the longest sides of the brush being clipped... that comes in handy! :)

Pressing o in 3d view also displays an FPS counter as well as the view's pitch, yaw and roll.

I think I posted the thing about clip numbers a few weeks ago...cant recall. It is a very very very useful tool, and there are quite a number of useful answers and 'hidden' tools that come in very handy.

I tried looking at the help file forever, but I can never seem to find what I'm looking for on there. Probably because I'm looking in the wrong area.

Select 2 edges(yellow marks), then press ctrl+f to create a new vertex between them.

Face splitting!

Since it looks like the question has been answered and that it's growing off topic...

Not till you explain the clip numbers thing. Is that like clipnodes?

What if no matter what option you try to use, the camera window is nothing but white (except the word 'camera' which is in black...and blinks). The first time I started worldcraft it looked fine, and it looked fine after I used the setup guide in here to get started...but the past few days it's been nothing but white. It's white if I try to open a new map with nothing in it...and it's white if I try to open my first map which has nothing but a big square hollow box in it...

I even updated my video drivers thinking it might have something to do wth it (even though it looked fine the first two times I ran the program)...

did I do something stupid? :zonked:

Idid do something stupid...I forgot to close and reopen worldcraft after changing the 3d view setting...although it doesn't explain why I had a white screen in the first place, changing to 3d textured then closing and reopening the program seems to have fixed the issue...

okay, now I'm just bgging the hell out of you all, I know...but after compiling the map (F9), turning around in a few circles, and then closing HL...my camera window is solid white again...

am I going to have to close and re-open Worldcraft EVERY time I compile something??? :(

Get Hammer. Something like this has been fixed, I remember the changelog.

Thanks...downloading 3.4 now. or should I get 3.5 beta? For some reason I was assuming that the program USED to be called Hammer and is now called worldcraft...so I thought I had the most up-to-date version...

heh...so it really WAS something stupid... :P

3.5beta supports in-hammer models, really helps for scaling.
You'll need to get the new FGD for that though.

and valve hammer 3.5beta

You will also need to unpack your models with Wally into valvemodels from valvepak0.pak.
