well i made 2 rooms and a hall why connecting them
ok now the problem is that it carves 1 hol in the 1st room adn 1 in the other (thats good) but the hall it self doesnt have a hole so i cant pass

After carving the hole (use a block to carve to make the correct sized hole)., you then make each wall, floor, and ceiling seperatly, which means there are four solids connecting the rooms not just the one carved one.

Alternatively, and more advised, don't carve at all, just construct your map brush-by-brush.

Use clip, or create individual brushes as the blue monkey said.
Carve's just untangible when used alot, you lose control.
Also, it's easily creating invalid solids and out-of-grid vertices when carving an complicated brush.

It sounds like you've miss understood the sarve tool a bit. It also sounds like you've done some Unreal mapping since that's how the "making 2 basic rooms and connecting them with a hallway" type tutorial would go (Since you would simple make 3 subtracted brushes)... Anyway, the carve tool is used to carves gaps in a brush (you're actually splitting the brush into several). You use a brush to carve into the other brush. So making a hallway between two rooms the way you're trying to do it would require you to also carve out of the middle (hallway) brush so that you can walk through it. - That's all a really bad way to map using Hammer so forget it.

It's better if you start mapping with Hammer forgetting about tools such as carve and construct everything by making each brush from scratch. Make a floor, walls, ceiling - 6 brushes. Then continue to split up your wall manually to make the gap where the hallway will go - 4 brushes. After making two rooms like that you would do the same again for the hall except all you need is the floor, 2 walls, and ceiling - 4 brushes. There's your "two rooms connected by a hallway" for Hammer. :)

No, I don't carve. I don't need to since there exists something like clip and vertex manipulation.

Oh, and brushes can be easily copied, so why not build from individual brushes instead?

C'mon, guys. This site needs to make up it's mind. masterp follows a tutorial, has a problem and some people say do it this way and others say not only "don't do it that way" but "never do it that way."

The beginner material in the tutorials about basic construction is about hollowing and carving.

Maybe this should be in the site suggestions but sounds like the first couple beginner tutorials should just be deleted.

simple. shift key is your messiah. hold shift hen rotating to keep the brush on strict angles. hold it while moving to copy a brush! shift, shift!

I think you might not have hollowed it out.
Also it gives much better results and works easier if you make each brush by its self then bring them together, may take longer, but helps if you have got the dimensions wrong.

true. make each brush individaully. may seem like a waste if time when your starting out, but once you get into the flow of mapping it will save your life.
