Every time I compile a map nowadays it keeps saying it cannot find the right filesystem dll to load! It's really odd! Anyone know the source of this problem?

Wasn't this some steam related thing?

We've had plenty of those, I recall.

Maybe forum search can bring enlightment.

Its ok, I fixed it. The problem was that you have to set the .exe to Steam.exe rather than hl.exe

oh I see, odd, is that running a map right after teh compile?

I don't do that so go figure =)

The problem is that Windows doesn't set the current directory to to Steam because its stupidity combined with Steam's stupidity is utterly and stranglingly insanely horrifically dumb.

Solution 1: Don't automatically run the map after compiling.

Solution 2: Don't even think of automatically run the map after compiling.

Solution 3: Kill everyone. You will therefore have no potential audience and no need to map.

That just baffles me... why shouldn't you playtest your map after a compile? Compiling from Hammer (as is my personal preference) combined with Steam gives me no single error...

And indeed, you should run Steam then... -silent -applaunch 70...

Don't automatically run the map.

I kill VHE and then run HL manually.
I need all system power. :D

Really, I never have problems with Hammer compiling. Sure, it locks up the editor, but I can open up a second copy. Memory usage? maybe a megabyte, which can be stored on the CPU caches anyways.

Hammer uses more than a meg of RAM, and I'd be very suprised if you had a combined L1+L2 cache of > 1MB ;)

I compile manually sometimes, DOS prompt, aaaaah.
