How I make metal mesh stuff where you can see it but also be able to see and shoot through the gaps?Like on a catwalk.
Also pls help me with my map L1P1 and makeing Barney use th scanner to open the door,but when you try it just say acsess denied. :(

That does not help.I whant it to be like a very small grid where you can see between the bits of metal but not the rest.like is often used for catwalks on hl or as metal fences. :|

func_walls are always walkable on.

To make a walkway, that you can shoot through, and you can walk on, you need a texture, try: {GRATE2A

Now make a brush (block/rectangle/whatever) and texture it with that tex. Select teh brush, click on To Entity on the right hand side of Hammer, select : func_illusionary, in the menu below it's name, go to:

Render Mode <- change it from 'normal' to Solid

and also:

FX Amount <- change it to 255

Now Exit the entity.

Make another brush in exactly the same place as teh func_illusionary, and texture it with the texture called by the name of:

clip

To find those textures, look in the halflife.wad, and use the Filter bar at the bottom.

Anything textured with clip means the player can't move past it, but it is invisible in-game, and bullets can go through it.

Some more information on what really happens would be good... Nobody can solve your problems when they don't know what's the actual problem...

When do you get an error (during compile, in-game or in-editor?), what did the error say, and what did you do before you got that error?

check out the resources links on the left of the forums. There is a link in there somewhere for a utility that saves versions of your maps every time you compile. You might find this handy for going back to an old revision in case your map gets screwed up.

Try rebooting and recompiling. Also, do an ALT+P before compiling and see if it gives you an error. This is very handy for finding problems before compiling.

Where can you get better entertainment than this? :nuts:

This is unfair!If I do what is surgested it don`t work.but if I use my backup before i did that it does work.But now I am back to the orignale problem.oh well at least I don`t have to start again.

The Clip function prevents the player from passing through. It's used to keep people from going where they shouldn't.

You can also use it to keep people from passing through your "Illusionary" walls, while still allowing everything else to pass. can also be used for a walking surface as well as railing. Give the proper texture and stuff. I know there's a tute, and I've done it myself, but years ago.

In fact, I'll be needing that same feature very soon as well.

if u wanna make your own texture get a good program like adobe photshop

now get a close up birds eye view of a grate u think will look good now fill in the spaces with bure blue 0 0 255 if its off by 1 unit it wont work now open up in wally and turn into texture and put into your wad with this prefix at start { which tells engine the texture is masked and all pure blue is see through

Ther must be textures I can use that come with the game.It has been done in HL single player.like for vents and where there is a pipe under the floor that has a cover to stop you / players / AI falling down.But how you make it work propley?

If hammer just closes it's usually a problem with say.. an FGD, get an up to date one form VERC.

Follow teh hamemr set up tutorials properly in teh first place and there will be no problems.

read tutorials about how to do this kind of thing.
