In old hammer i used to get my .jpg or whatever textures and then id add them to a wad with wally. Now the texture pak files are .something :P . Basically what im asking is - How do i get a .jpg image into the new texture file format?

i think if u pull it up in any pain or paint shop pro u have to "save as" and save it under a diff file type bmp is what i think u use in wads

if this does not work u can call me a loser rest of the next 5 mins, i think that pain will be hard to bare

The new texture files are actually Valve Texture Files, or VTFs. These need to be created with the vTEX commandline utility in the sourcesdkbin folder. You need to have your custom textures in a TGA format (32bit is necessary, I think).

Snarkpit has a good tutorial on the proper use of vTEX and how to create the material definition file, the VMT.
