Something that has eluded me for my whole mapping career.

How do you make a door not open the width of itself? Like when you open the door it opens the width of itself so that when its completely open the textures are mixed together, like what it would look like if you built 2 blocks same size in each other.

I see it done in Half Life and many other mods, but not very many custom maps. I acheived it one time, by accident, and cant remember how I did it, and I have lost that map's rmf.

I think the lip property is what you need. From what I understand, it's value is taken off of the tidth that the door is going to open. An Example:

NOT WRITTEN TO SCALE

Door width: 20
Current Width including when open: 40
Make Lip Value To: 10
Current Width including when open: 30

So it takes off whatever the value is in the lip property. I think this is right and hopefully it helps.

Yeh, it just stops the door x units short, where x is what you enter in the lip field.

You could make a train do it for you.

The door tool is completely useless to me, I just make all my doors trains.

I found out that you can do quite a lot with trains.

Lucky4's is exactly correct. A great property to avoid seeing the door interlope with the frame on a sliding door. Also a great effect if you want to simulate a malfunctioning door.

You can use negative lip, too, to make it move further than its own depth.
