This applies for HL2 and HL1. How many times over the time that these games have been out have you played through Single player? Me I would say in HL1 it was 10, and HL2 4. I always do it once, then go through cheating and having fun, then go through again legit on hard. How bout you?

HL1 = Never without cheats. If found the rail levels way too boring.
HL2 = Once. I have replayed most of the levels except the airboat ones.

HL1 = Once. Wait, no. I didn't bother killing the overgrown baby.
HL2 = Never, got bored fast.

HL1: 1 1/2 times. I was just playing this morning. I am nearing the end of "Power Up", before launching the rocket.

HL2: 2 1/5 times. I just finished "Route Kanal", and I am going through the underground brick maze right now, dodging those damn barnacles and manhacks. Man, do I wish I had a gravity gun against those manhacks. They're a real pain in the butt with just a SMG and a crowbar.

I really can't remember, for HL1... I finished it the whole way through only once, but I played it up to the Xen levels about 6 times, I'd say.

I was going to play it again really recently, but I ran into this error when I got to Power Up that prevented me from going any further, so I never finished it a second time.

I completed HL2 twice, but played a lot of little bits of it many times.

Half-Life - a few too many times, i have now forboden myself from playing through it again within the next few years. Its boring now anyway.

Half-Life 2 - twice, and im playing through it on SMOD now and its the most fun iv'e ever had playing a HL mod, slomo, exaggerated gibs, magic wands, psp's, gordon kick(fav), alyx gun etc. etc. Its an awesome mod.

Half-life - enough for a Whole life..........time. (somewhere in the means of 10 play throughs and countless more jumping into levels to see stuff for mapping reasons.)

Half-life 2 - 2.5 timesish

I can't think of another PC game that people would play over and ove again for so many times.

It tells you just how good HL1 is. It's being played six or seven years after it was released. Most games would not even survive that long on the HDD. I uninstalled FarCry after going through it once.

HL1 = 2 on easy 2-3 or hard, 1 while cheating, many runs on different parts, trying to find some architecture inspiration..

HL2 - 1 on easy, 1 on hard

Did you mean "Normal" instead of "Easy"? Nobody plays on "Easy".

I have done half-life once I think...
I have done Half-life2 once aswell.

I occasionally play half-life to get idea's for architecture, although to be honest, half-life's texturing and architecture sucked quite a bit in parts.

Too many.
I have played through it so many times I have lost count (not that I was counting anyway... probably approching or in the 3 digit region?

HL1 = probably bout twice, though mostly in random sections

HL2 = also twice, - once medium, once hard - completed fully both times

then I just replay parts for fun and with cheats!
Posted 18 years ago2006-02-27 16:54:19 UTC Post #165391
HL1 - twice - once without cheats =)
HL2 - none.. ever since I got a job and a girlfriend, I haven't played any in-depth games in a while..

Did Elon Yariv just said that? WHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHA

Excuse me, but that coming from Elon is just funny..

ON TOPIC: I got to the start of the xen levels, but I couldn't get any further at a certain point, I found half-life getting a bit boring at the end.. In other words, 0 times.

I did completed hl1, once.

I've finished HL more than 10 times. HL2 only once
Same here except I'm slowly playing through HL2 again at the moment.. HL2's Airboat and Buggy chapters where far to annoying to repeat.

Did I said I completed hl1? I ment hl2 with that..

Anyway, I found the airboat level very fun, I didn't like the buggy chapters.

OMG LIAR!

I have completed HL2 4 times to date, first on medium, then hard twice, and then on easy (for the lol factor). I have played through singlular chapters a few times aswell.

HL1: Once. It's damn long.
HL2: Three times. All on hard.

Airboat was fun for me.

However, the Sandtrap chapter was frustrating. I hated the "touch the sand and get swarmed with antlions" deal.

I hated the antlions, and it was a great relief when they became my allies.

I loved the touch the sand part! So innovative! I also liked the parts where you need to balance a board to progress. WAit, I loved every single part of HL2. There are no boring parts like Hl1's "On a Rail"
Posted 18 years ago2006-02-28 20:40:29 UTC Post #165641
I didnt notice you could activate the combine thumpers to avoid antlions until I saw my brother playing through that part.
I guess It would be fun to replay HL2 with the physcannon right from the start. I think the airboat levels were fun, but since you go through them at high speed, the number of changelevels (and slow loadings with my CPU) makes it a bit annoying. But nothing nearly as annoying as the rail maze in HL1. Xen should've been skipped alltogether. Aliens are much more menacing if you know little about their origin. I think HL1 should've ended with a battle in the first test chamber where it all started.
Posted 18 years ago2006-02-28 20:50:03 UTC Post #165642
Innovative? That's been used in games before. I mean the whole "don't touch the certain area or bad things'll happen"-deal.
Posted 18 years ago2006-02-28 21:46:35 UTC Post #165646
I didn't like the teleporter in HL1. The one where you get randomly teleported to different levels in that generator thing.

How annoying to have to do it over and over again to get it right. Requires random luck and no skill at all.

Yeah, ZL, nothing it truely new, but it definitely was a good example of using physics for gameplay purposes. :)

@satch: it requires good jumping skills and memorizing (or a slice of paper) - it wasn't random as far as I remember. Not really the most interesting part but a fair breakup after all the combat imho.
Posted 18 years ago2006-02-28 22:17:19 UTC Post #165651
I know that idea has been used. (Espically in 2d games) But they did it perfectly, and in conjunction with the physics was brilliant. Half-life 2 is just so fun, espically going through from stage one with the Super Gravity gun! Endless replay value! Half-life 2 took little gameplay aspect ideas and did all of them 100% correct. Its quite possibly the greatest Single player FPS ever!
Posted 18 years ago2006-02-28 23:08:46 UTC Post #165653
The physics puzzles were the greatest. I have just never seen that before.
