in the very end of Interloper, when you stand next to the red portal, you hear many, many voices... what is this??
Posted 18 years ago2006-03-01 09:47:38 UTC Post #165732
Maybe it's Nihalinth and the Xenians speaking? I think if you reverse some of Nihalinth's speach you hear messages from the creators (or is this another boss?). He says stuff like "Slaves... we are all slaves" (not in reverse) hinting to the fact that Xen is secretly under combine control.

wrong, wrong and wrong... Its a multi manager triggering scientist, barney voices. And also there is an ambience which plays alienvoices1.wav .Thats it, these are the things you hear near the red portal

He actually says:
"they're slaves, we are they're slaves, we are"
other interesting things he says include:
"you are man, him not man, for you he waits, for you" (Gman?)
"the truth, you can never know the truth"
"last, i am the last"
"theives, you all are theives, you all are"
Pretty cryptic but cool. That's what Nihanlanth says, saco just said what's at the red portal, but why barney and scientists?

The voices that are still heard from the black mesa through the portal..

Listen it carefull you can even hear the the scientist saying:''Its waiting for you Gordon, in the test chamber!'' .Its like Freeman remembering the accident.

I figured, that was between me and Saltycrak, point out the obvious.

So that big red portal could be where the main invasion force came through, its monitoring black mesa... ?

Its a discussion thread, it does not matter what is said, especially if you just helped him, no need to point out something that obvious. Anyway back to this red portal, its been a while since ive played that far into HL, is that the portal that leads right into Nihalanth's chamber?

It was pretty big i remember, my theory is that its the main portal between Xen and Black Mesa, thus you can hear events occuring in the early stages of the Black Mesa Incident:
Listen it carefull you can even hear the the scientist saying:''Its waiting for you Gordon, in the test chamber!'' .Its like Freeman remembering the accident.
like you said.

Just goes to show the mystery behing the Xenians and combine still unanswered...

Hes not asking for nihilanth's voice. Some of you need to read his post more carefully.
when you stand next to the red portal, you hear many, many voices
He's asking about the voices that you hear near the teleport to Nihilanth's chamber, aka, voices of scientists, aliens, barney, and other sounds from earlier in the game.
Its a bunch of ambient_generics set to really low volumes and are triggered by a repeating multi_manager. If you want to create this effect(which I am assuming you do) make a bunch of ambient_generics, assign them a different name, check the "does not loop" flag, make a multi_manager, have the multi_manager trigger each sound one after another and finally have it trigger itself in the end, check the "multithreaded" flag so it loops itself.
Phew, long sentence.

Hehehe, we mappers only think in technical terms ah...

Voices are no voices but ambient_generics, and if they are that then they can't be scientists speaking since that is done with scripted_sentences, and so on...

Sometimes I wish I still was just a gamer...

Dammit fool, its a discussion thread! I posted my opinion first, i was wrong about what the voices were, but none-the-less there was a continued discussion about the Nihalanths sentences too! Find something better to complain about.

But the Nihilanth's sentences were mentioned in this thread.
Not by the person asking the question.

But Strider wants to discuss it...and he is too lazy to open a new thread for it..

One of the scientist voices coming from the portal says "Get him out of there, shut down the equipment and somone get him out."

I found this sound in the pak file a while ago and I thought it might be if you wait to long in the test chamber at the start however it never gets used. There is another just before it saying "He waited to long. We can't contain it."

Of course when you hear this at the end of the game it raises the interesing matter of what could have been. If Freeman had never pushed the crystal into the beam and the machine overloaded then Xen would never have come into contact with Earth and the combine would have never been able to invade. It's kind of a haunting message.

Too lazy the click the mouse a few times and type in some jumbo? Or is it that i find it pointless to open up a thread on something i simply suggested? Get over it, its a discussion, otherwise this thread would have been over long ago. I didnt want to discuss it, if you read correctly i suggested it was Nihalanth speaking - i was wrong, me and other people then continued the discussion and guess what... that's legal in a discussion thread.

So? Its something to talk about!

@Urbanebula: That saying "He waited too long. We can't contain it." I think that is also what the scientists say if you take far too long to deliver the sample at the start and you therefor fail, though i cant exactly remember if i'm correct.

Calm down, just a misunderstanding...

Saco, stop bombarding someone who got something wrong. At least he attempted to help. He simply misread the question. You like it if someone did the same to you? No?
