In certain points of Half-Life, there was an echo from your footsteps and weapons. How do you make that echo? If I'm not clear enough, tell me and I will try to give a specific example.

Yep.
You can also test the sounds for each room type by using the console command "room_type 1,2,3,etc" to find which effect sounds best without compiling your map over and over.

Change the room type to the appropriate size--tiny, small, medium, large, etc.

That's the nice thing about the Source engine. The echo is automatically calculated from the surrounding brush works. I have always been impressed by that.

I always wished you could activate env_sounds by walking through trigger brushes instead. The whole radius thing is so incredibly crude, you can sometimes even sneak around them without realizing.

and if you're not careful they can extend into other rooms as well.

Spirit has trigger_sound, that fits your needs well.

I never noticed any echos at all.
