In order to offset my record of rediculously[sic] long journals here is a short one (relatively.)
I have just cruised through the forums and came across a very disturbing knowledge about this community.
---> There is a forum thread about dude named Kasperg. The thread starter appearently is sympathizing with that person and also suggesting "improvements" for this site. After some comments and all, a master moderator arrived and beacause that thread was bothering him, closed the thread. Add that to the fact that the comments there suggest that threads are regularly locked by master moderators it is suggesting that the moderators like to close topics they don't like on a regular basis. This suspiciously sounds like curbing freedom of speech, but seeing as I'm not an internet-specialized lawyer or anything I don't know if that's alright or not (looks like it is.) But I have also noticed certain "regulars" that have leaved (left, sorry) this site permanently under rather disturbing circumstances, I am thinking of rowleybob and that dude Kasperg. (Some idiot pm'ed me has the impression that I'm Kasperg, but if you think about it, if I can really map that well I would be getting awards already). I am not going to question further on pain of an horribly gruesome internet "death", but for the sake of being an open, friendly site,(hopefully), any topic that's not a flamewar should not be closed, you know...
Dam, I thought it would be short. Oops, you know. I write too much crap.

Playbus is one of the guys that left in a more peaceful way. And he will never come back.
You can see that most of the good guys are over 25 (or at least in that range), and most of the admins are under 25. It's normal that the admins have different ideas, they're more ... rebel if I can say so. While the over 25 guys are more mature.... they take the subjects more seriously. Heh, way to dig up the past. I like to think that I started out that thread logical and sensible but started getting rather ticked off as the thread descended into madness. I regret it (and a few other similar situations), and a while back now, I made a promise to myself that it wouldn't happen again. The "Rowleybob incident" was before my time.
The problem with being a moderator on a site is that when this kind of stuff happens, there's absolutely no way to wind up as the good guy at the end. If you close the thread, you're a nazi who "abuses power" and "prevents free speech", if you don't, you're blamed when it gets out of control.
I like to think I'm at least a little more mature now then I was back then. I was a terrible admin to start with, and I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the best person for the job. But, for all the stuff that happens, I'll stick around, and try to improve the site code. With Grim, Daub, and Strider as admins (who are all less likely than me to spit the dummy), you're in good hands.

I believe the final nail on the Kasperg coffin was me deleting one of his shouts, (after warning everybody to drop the subject, might I add). If I had the option to do it again, I would. Despite how arrogant I thought he was being, I only acted to try and put a stop to the endless bitching.

I'm pretty happy with the mature and unbiased way I behaved in that thread.
Kasperg, the voting system is exactly that, a voting system. A democracy. It works just fine. Some people don't like you and your mod and you took a hissy fit. It is the most childish thing i have ever seen, and i had a massive ammount of respect for you which has just completely vanished.whistles innocently

I think it's comical that people get so upset about a map, and there is actually a discussion on the "freedom of speech" for a forum.
An online community is privately own and run. It can do whatever that it wants. It does not have government jurisdiction, and freedom of speech is moot in private quarters.
If a two-year-old starts saying bad words and his parents tell him to stop, does not count as infringement on freedom of speech?
It's just a forum. It's just a game. Real atrocities are committed world wide on a daily basis. Go worry about those.

Golly gee wiz, I had some pretty coarse opinions to get out in that thread. Maybe it's just me, but whenever I re-read my old posts like that they seem of much higher quality than they have been lately, and I can't even imagine typing half the stuff I did.
I always find it funny looking back that Penguinboy was ever capable of becoming viewed as a "head moderator". Back in the day, he was literally the farthest thing I could think of from being a leader of any type. He wasn't even picked for the job from what I remember, he just landed it circumstantially from being so heavily involved in TWHL3's development. That was one of the harder transitions for me, from talking to this random smart-ass on IRC, and then suddenly that smart-ass became a mod, and then one day he wasn't a smart-ass anymore. Damn. And now I have mad respec' for him.
By the way 2muchvideogames, I'm somewhat curious as to how you inadvertently stumbled across that thread in particular. I'm not suspicious or anything, it's just a remarkable coincidence you were able to pick up on so much in such a short time, especially considering how awful our current search function is when you actually want to find something like that. The fact that you came across the entire history of Kasperg and Rowleybob is, well, amazing.

As far as the original post goes, there is no "curbing" of freedom of speech. First off, this isn't even an American based site, and many of the admins are not American. Secondly, there are rules and standards, and as far most rule makers anywhere are concerned, you either follow them or you go. Just like a school, or any other building, a website owner sets his or her own guidelines and expects users follow them. Any place else would do the same.

Hell, I don't even think you deserve to win after getting so bent out of shape over your mod not getting a unanimously positive response. That'd be unfair to Kasperg though, as I haven't seen him complaining on the same level you have this whole time.Srry, you made Kasperg leave.
