From a casual gamer like you I even don't feel insulted.
Lol'd at the concept of Huntey ever being a 'Casual' gamer.

Playing casual games does not make you a casual gamer.

Those games are cool but 3d in my op is way cooler. You guys are right about it needing to be different and bring new concepts in to make money but I already know that. I'd model all new weapons. I'd compose all new music. You wouldn't be gordon freeman. It would be a completely different game. Either way im going to try anyways. I'm probably doing it for source now.

You have no idea how much fun it actually is, playing these smaller games. Plants vs Zombies for example: fucking awesome, as you can tell by the review scores.

I have a venue and the means to do this.
I have not the time nor the money to do this.

This is what you do:

Step 1: Get the Unity3D Free Version.
Step 2: Learn Javascript.
Step 3: ???
Step 4: Profit.

Sorry Muzz, but you're pretty much wrong about PopCap creating original games.

To use your two examples, Zuma had a lawsuit filed against it for copyright infringement of a 1998 game, and the Bejeweled gameplay originated from a 1988 game called Shariki.

Peggle is based on the Japanese 'Pachinko' machines and Plants vs. Zombies is based on the tried-and-tested tower defense gameplay. While all these games add new twists to the gameplay they borrow from, none of the fundamental gameplay elements are original.

Also, the people who are hating on casual games are idiots.

Did not know that, i thought they were the first to come up with those... Oh well.
I knew PvsZ was a tower defense game, but the way its played is pretty original.

I'd still say Plants vs Zombies is an original game.
If you're going to play that card, then all games based around the same general principle can't be original.

The way the tower defense was executed made it innovative and fresh. I can't speak for any other Popcap games.

JavaScript is a wonderful language, but W3Schools is a horrible website I wouldn't recommend to anyone. Several of its code examples are incorrect and it's not updated for later versions of JavaScript. For example it teaches the for(x in y) statement but not the for(var x in y) syntax, or the for each(x in y) statement. You learn about the alert function but alert is not part of the language. The HTML is incorrect.

Wow unity looks great. Thanks rim, ill start messing with it. Do you have any experience with it? And do you know if you can sell a game made with it?

I believe you can. It says that it is free for personal and commercial use. It certainly looks interesting. It seems some of the cooler features are only included with Unity Pro though, which is $1,499. Also, if you or your company make over $100,000 you have to purchase the pro version. Hell, if I made over $100,000 I'd buy Unity Pro and then fly to their office and shag them all.

From using it so far I've found it to be like...a mac. Making custom shaders and particle effects is real easy and it comes with a bunch of free resources and code to help you out.

Their forums are also good as I got a reply within an hour of asking and the code the guy gave me worked perfectly.

I especially like how you can code in tick boxes into Unity itself. So like I needed a trigger for a door and the guys code made it so you could pick from a drop down list what to trigger and so on.

CapT, your friend mark is a douchebag. Quake 3 is open source under the GPL. You can "license" it for FREE.
meaning you can base your game off it and make money off it at no cost? p.s. the same goes for the UDK?
My friend Mark said that he saw a ninja totally uppercut some kid just because the kid opened a window.
HAHA yes someone got it =) =) =)

Yes I have unity experience, yes you can use the free version for selling I think. I'm using it for my Scotch and Coffee Island competition entry.

My island doesn't look as crisp and clean as the example island, but mine is built from the ground up and has lots of landmarks and structures signature to Scotch and Coffee, fully playable via first person. It also features a cheap custom reflective water and music. I do like how vegetated Unity can get without losing and performance, even on my old laptop.

No screens until it is done though. Lots of work to do yet.

Cool well ill try and develope some experience with it. Maybe I could make and complete mapping and modeling/animations and sounds etc. for a game with it and than get someone to code for it... Its pretty cool, the first model I ever made with blender was a heron and theres a heron in the island example map. Mine could open his mouth and was going to be able to fly.

Ninjah'd. So stop whining about Popcap originality.
