I have been using hammer fine with no problems latley until now. Suddenly it won't let me rotate stuff. I click the bloody cross in the middle of the geometry and it just wont let me rotate any more. This is really annoying me can anyone help?

Don't use that type of rotation, it distorts your brush, rather hit ctrl+m,
you can rotate thing in the three axis x, y, and z. to figure out whitch one to use look at the 2d window you want the rotation to become aparent in, whichever letter is NOT in the window name is the one you want to use.

Rileymo is correct, it screws up your brushes giving invalid solids and such. You could also use vertex manip to rotate complex brushes.

It's just the way that suits you best. Personally I never really use the Ctrl + M method as rotating with Shift pressed lets you rotate in steps of 15 degrees, easily allowing you to perform a 90 degree rotation. You can also set an option so that rotating automatically goes in steps of 15 degrees and pressing Shift allows free rotation.

As for your problem, Jake, what does happen when you click on the middle cross? I can't tell whats wrong from the information you've given.

It seems to be only on this one particular counter-strike map. I have two walls, a door (without func_door yet) and a floor. Hammer lets me rotate in all other unfinnished maps I have lying around.

Try clicking on the edge of the selection or just somewhere inside the selection box instead of that center cross. Just be sure not to click something that causes you to select other brushes...
