So no offence but don't ignore your parents, Hunter quite frankly if your parents are worried about your homework then I would too. School always comes first before fun. Besides once the work is done you can play.
Dude.. Ya sound just like my Dad.. :aghast:

I got lucky and worked doing cad design for a company that sesigns coffe shops. basicly mapping without the fun.

Im 17 and Im picking looking at Unis now. I coasted through my GCSEs not really giving much of a shit but I barly got back into school. Habboi is right yknow. I have to work alot to get good A levels, but Its the only way Im gonna get onto a game design/development course at Uni.
Posted 18 years ago2006-01-21 09:36:11 UTC Post #158878
Not to shit on anyones parade but uni is not the big, future-employment opportunity it's made out to be, look and try hard enough and you can get into the big jobs without uni-experience. Iv'e just being accepted into a bachelor of science in a uni in Perth but im seriously considering not going - it just doesnt interest me! But by all means if sitting a game designers course at uni is your thang than good luck with it. ;)

What's the latest on HL:HS's release date anyone?

I have the qualifications to get into a Bachelor of Science degree in Computing but I've dropped the idea now that I've landed this new Admin Assistant position. I just don't fancy studying computers for another 3 year when all I have to do is get my 2 years of Admin experience where I am now and go for a lead Administrator position in an office somewhere with my ?25,000+ a year. I'm happy with that.

If I did take the course I'd only have to work my way up for 3 years in 3 years time anyway.

Yes thats very true but I really would like to get a job in the games industry. It is a kind of 'dream job' positiong but for exacly that reason its hard as hell. Working on a large title game is a very competitive area and working for 3 or 4 years for a qualification made for the job Is the time and education I need to take hobby mapping. to the stage of professional game design (not just mapping, but other areas). I am really serious about it and I think I need every boost I can get to get there.

urb, I wish I had the techie know how for an admin job - so many people go straight from school to admin its unbeleivabe!

You know this delay is all my fault. No really it is. I keep on delaying my HL:HS map, because i begin to loose interest. But don't worry, i won't drop out, i will finish this.

Since I've finished de_simc, my progress would be:

hs4b - 15%
hs4c - not started yet
hs4d - not started yet

I think that I might manage to finish it till mid-February, maybe a bit longer. It depends on how fast I can get in touch with Saco, so that we could discuss our chapter.. :)

hunter, your done right? or very close to it? why don't you grab hs4d or something. i'd grab one myself and hurry this along, but I have hs6_e and the credits to do.

and since winter-een-mas starts on wendsay and ends a week later, I don't think we will be getting a release. but, if we all put our backs into it...

i was going to be reserve if codlfeet doesn't contact, but actually, i prefer your idea gargly. i'd love to do hs4d because i know exactly what i want to happen in the map before my hs5a.

what are you're thoughts Daubster? Saco?

about this hs6_e I just began on. I steped back and thought of where the Idea for it really developed from.

It was a blend of 2 parts of Fear and a part of Minerva (I've played alot of F.E.A.R. over the last month and have many fond memories of Minerva.). Specificly the part in Fear where you fall through some bad flooring into the buildings basement and have to get back up.

I won't drop all the awsome details, but think of it like the ultimate Build a Machine Comp entry + That part in Minerva with the music. except this time the music is composed by me.

*M_Gargantua scuries off to make the end of HS very memorable

Edit:
O muzzle, how do you think the copying of the AR code for the mini-14 is going to go, and pepper, how are you doing with the UVskinning of it?

and im wondering since im making a BG song for my part if you could look at the ambient_fmodstream entity from spirit to see how it plays Mp3 files so I don't have to put it all into big ole' wav format

I haven't tried that yet. Could you pm me the detail about this? I don't feel like browsing miles and miles of pages in this thread, just find the details about this. :)

@Hunter: 3 mappers for 1 chapter is really too much. Just let me know, how ya want it to end and I'll do it.. :)
And i think that I will be done by mid-February, so that's not so late.

dude. Dynamic. fucking. lights.

but its the maps that take so long for me.. those and the custom textures and sounds..

But remember, thats just from my chapter, and i am by far the worst mapper on the team (although i may be better than coldfeet because i at least DO the fucking maps)

by.. dynamic lights.. teh shex!
and teh 1337 smoke puffs!

Pepper, how is the wepon coming along?

Dauby: mid febuary, eh? okay... that gives me some more skinning time too...

is it too crazy to ask for another custom gun?
