Synopsis:
The original intent of this map was to create an asymmetrical game mode, where the Blue team was tasked with picking up their flag and depositing it in the Red base, and the Red team simply had to defend themselves. I never really got the entities working to make this happen, and in 2020 there would be nobody to play it anyway so this map is effectively a 'museum piece'.

I had designed this map and most of the custom textures in the summer of 2001, right before entering high school and in the tail end the early Mapcore and CS.net mapping forum days. I had it mostly done, but lost interest before ever releasing it or fine-tuning the TFC entities. It's always been my best map, and so I was annoyed that I never kept a playable .bsp file to revisit. During the 2020 COVID-19 lockdowns, I had the right combination of time, nostalgia, and Windows PC access to dig up all my old files and get this map compiled again. This necessitated re-creating the lights.rad file, some of the original .wad files, and fixing some messed up geometry. I couldn't resist adding an underwater sewer pipe and some other little odds and ends just to get that classic mapping feel again.

Nobody has ever played this map, and really it's not set up to really be played in any meaningful sense. Still, it's a little bit of nostalgia and a reminder of the great times I had as a CS/TFC mapper and texture artist in those early days.
Map started: June 2001 (appx)
Map completed: July 2020
Map completion time: Approximately 6970 days
Map compilation time in 2001: 73.68 minutes (AMD Athlon 1ghz, 512mb ram)
Map compilation time in 2020: 4.7 minutes (Intel Xeon E5-1650 v4, 3.6ghz; 96gb ram)
Installation: Make sure you have TFC installed, but place this map in the /Half-Life/valve/maps/ folder and run it from the Half-Life console. This is because I don't have any of the TFC entities placed.

Pretty interesting story, a 19 year old map being resurrected and brought back to life!

I don't play TFC but I can see the passion put into this, great stuff qe.

If you're interested, there's some old TFC archive site that an old friend linked me, maybe you'd find it interesting to look at all the maps posted on there: https://tfcmaps.net/

No idea who runs it.
