A plane is basically a more technical term for a face or the angle of which the face goes. For example, you can have two or more faces on the same plane but that will increase the data use of that plane and they can overload. Planes only go in straight lines, you cannot twist or break a plane without creating a new one. You also cannot cross planes without segmenting them. Ususally mappers need not worry about this as the compile tools handle them but you may get errors if you disrupt planes too much.
