A visleaf is a group of one or more leafs in a BSP file. Between each visleaf that connect to each other, a portal is generated. The VIS compiler calculates visibility between visleafs.

The distinction between a leaf and visleaf is the presence of func_detail entities. Normally brushes always cut leafs and generates portals, and the two are identical, but func_detail with detail level > 0 groups the leafs it cuts into the same visleaf, and don't generate portals. leafs in the same visleafs are always visible to each other, and a visleaf seeing into another visleaf can see all its member leafs.
