PS2 is 8 years old.
8 years is enough to be called old.

This is a great MOD everyone HAS TO DOWNLAOD. I just played through several maps and my eyes dropped on the floor . It's amazing ! Pure detail . Interactivity ( in some maps ) . I even spend some time looking on the walls :))

Hmm.. Bit of a minor snag with the new version of spirit we decided to use. It fixed a lot of other major bugs, but unfortunately, this one slipped through. :(

Old consoles are fun. That's why I have a SNES (with a backup unit so I can play downloaded games), and GBA emulators on my PSP.

potatis. the ps2 version is exactly the same as the pc version. don't buy ps2 unless you'r mental.
Commented 16 years ago2008-05-27 03:18:14 UTC in journal: #5097 Comment #54823
if the pc has it then the console should have it too.
Commented 16 years ago2008-05-27 02:43:11 UTC in journal: #5098 Comment #51583
If I ever would buy a PS2 I would chip it.
I know how it works, I once chipped my brother's PS2.

Did you even run full-vis? it looks like fast-vis!

ALso, the lighting could be better by compiling with -extra. if you did, sorry.

Also, a little sound and ambience goes a long way. AT LEAST use trigger_sound to set what kind of echoes happen in the room to give some life.

Overall it is nice though, good choice of texturing.

EDIT: ever plan to update it? i would like to see it in smoother light. If not, well ok.

If you ever bought a PS2, you'd need to chip it if you wanted burned discs to work with it. It'd be way cheaper and easier to buy the real thing for ten or fifteen bucks.

the special edition of quake 4 for PC does, but i don't think the console version has it.
Commented 16 years ago2008-05-26 19:00:54 UTC in journal: #5098 Comment #51582
I have downloaded it, I'll see if it works with an emulator. I really hope it does :)
I have also downloaded the PS2 version, so I have it just in case I would ever buy a PS2.

The other problem is, since there's no auto save feature, you have to go all the way through the menu and manually save it. When you die, it prompts you to either load a game, or load from your last save. No continue or anything. I was just playing now, and when I died after getting chopped up by the overhead vent fan in Office complex, I was sent back to the end of Unforeseen Consequences where I had last saved. It's probably why they have codes that let you load the game up at the beginning of a chapter. Unfortunately, you can't save constantly, or your save file will get so big the game will start to slow down.

There's a reason it's called a beta.

Hmm... Actually, it would appear that it has been redesigned a little, though I don't know how extensively. I skipped to Office Complex, and they modified the map very slightly so that you have to go down a corridor in front of you to get to the lounge area that has the power switch in it. I assume they did this for no other reason than to save r_speeds, since they did get pretty high right there.

Penguinboy:
No, it's not chipped or anything, since most Dreamcasts will play burned CDs. That's why SEGA had such a big problem with pirating. And also why there's still homebrew games being made for it.
Commented 16 years ago2008-05-26 04:42:38 UTC in journal: #5098 Comment #51573
So is that Dreamcast 'chipped or do they play burnt CD's by default?

Also, Dreamcast.
Awesome :P

It's not like the PS2 version, it's just the original game like on the pc... no updated areas.

If it's anything like the PS2 version I'd still enjoy playing it.

So.. Dreamcast, eh?

Finished it last night, had a blast. The stages were all pretty nice, but Scepter of Ra stood out to me because of it's campy, Indiana Jones goodness. ;)
Commented 16 years ago2008-05-25 20:23:40 UTC in journal: #5097 Comment #54811
Quake Wars > Quake 4

Like, by a long shot. Q4 is a repetetive corridor shooter diguised as a war game, ETQW is an actual sprawling class-based war game with some great rewards.
