I totally agree with this status, that extra level of realism would be amazing in games. stalker was good like that but could be improved. commandos 2 was always fun, and crysis has quite clever ai also.

I'm from Australia and you have to be in the left lane to turn left and right lane to turn right. Maybe it was a single lane road, or maybe the left lane was blocked and the driver tried to overtake in rage on the wrong side of the road.. my mate did that recently and is going to court in a week for it.. a cop almost t boned him.. how unlucky

Very good tutorial, Urby!

I really enjoyed it, and its something that all new mappers should look at to get a grasp of the different elements of a map and some nice little touches to convert a bland map into something interesting.

One thing you should have touched on would have been how exactly to do the features we see in the video.

What I mean is, that I noticed that there was not alot of 'on screen' viewing segments to see what your doing in hammer to create the things we see when you run around in game, ie placing two textures along one surface.

But then again maybe that kind of thing would be better in a video of its own, (correct mapping techniques) where you show how to make walls, floors, doors, windows, ceilings the 'correct' way. Which would generally be without carving, lowering r-speeds, and the most simple and easy to maintain way.

This would help new mappers by giving them a solid foundation of skills, which I believe the 'In the Beginning' series (don't get me wrong, it's a great resource) wasn't 100% successful in doing

In conclusion! Nice work, and keep it up, I hope to see more! *subscribes

You'll get extra stuff in the expansions like new maps and units and structures etc.. but it would be better in one full game

I paid AUD$69 at EB who originally wanted $100, but pricematched JB Hifi

Does this ladder work by making tiny steps all the way up it textured with the nodraw texture?

yeah it differs slightly between states in Australia, but they follow a similar structure (which I explained).
We separate the year with 4 terms, not trimesters (another useless piece of information) in the primary and high school systems and most uni courses (one exception would be law). correct me if i'm wrong but I'm pretty sure it's the same throughout Australia
And most private high schools are called Colleges, universities are for tertiary education, as Trapt said.
Commented 13 years ago2010-07-05 11:59:44 UTC in journal: #6632 Comment #63629
I'm 18 and in my first year of university (don't call it college in Australia).

In Australia,

kindergarten is optional at the age of 3 or 4

reception (first year of schooling) usually begins at age 5

grades 1 - 12, if you go to a private school (I did), primary school ranges from reception til grade 6. Middle school begins in grade 7 and finishes after year 9. Senior school begins at grade 10 and ends with the final grade 12.

However if you go to a public school, primary school is from reception til year 7 and high school is from grade 8 til grade 12.

During grades 10-12, you must compelete a certain number of subjects with satisfactory scores, and the scores obtained from the minimum of 5 subjects undertaken in grade 12 are added, scaled, bonus points are added, who knows what else happens, and you get given a score out of 100

To get into a course at university, you will need a minimum score and have to have completed certain subjects in grade 12 as prerequisites
courses at university take on average 4 years to complete.

My Civil Engineering degree takes 4 years but can be completed in 3 if I undertake extra subjects. Honours is obtained by invitation if you have a good grade point average, and you complete a large assignment in your final year, masters takes another year or two, and a PHD will require around another two years

Many people also take a 'Gap Year' when transitioning from high school to university, usually at the age of 18.

I agree with Huntey, it was more of a Hollywood-esque film, still enjoyable though. The gory scene where Carlyle brutally kills his wife freaked me out the first time I saw it. And Imogen Poots isn't too bad, but her eyes are a little strange

Man that sucks, hope all goes well with the payments.

My mate rear ended someone the other day, because the car 2 cars ahead slammed on the brakes and almost caused a massive pileup.

Didn't even damage the car ahead of him. Some tradesman's Ford ute, but the front bar, rad support bar, and bonnet of my mate's 200sx are screwed. Remarkably, the headlights and front quarter panels are fine.

Thanks for the nice comments, kind welcome and helpful advice guys!

I'm studying at the University of South Australia by the way.

I received an email recently about holiday schools which "add value to your degree." There was an architecture one and some business ones. Would they be worth doing?

When I try to make a window with the Func_breakable_surf entity, I can only see the glass on one side, the other side of the window is fully clear, what am I doing wrong?

Note that I am not using the same texture used in this tutorial. This is because I can't choose it from my list of textures, how can I make it available?

As a compromise, how can I cut a little hole in the window to make it loook broken.

@Habboi: I've got my money on your hypothesis.

@Rimrook: Sven Coop was magic on gldsrc and can't be compared with L4D

@Huntey: I completely agree with you- all games are improved ten fold when played with friends, especially LAN but games like L4D allow for something just about as good online due to the co-op.

Oh my god that was excellent, make the sequel NOW!
my favourite map would have to be the one which made me jump several times!!
that map was amazing, i can't remember the name of the author of that particular level but congratulations, you need to make a mod in that genre! i was shitting my pants the whole way and was almost glad that the room ended!
that has never happened to me in a videogame before, not to mention a goldsource game! i even jumped when i played the room again!
raver's oriental room was beautiful, as well as rimrook's.. hmm i don't know what to call it but it was amazing, halflife hotdog's map reminded me of a scene in soldier of fortune, where you see infected people in areas like the forrested areas surrounded by glass, which were great by the way
all in all, this was a great mod and all the rooms were fantastic, 5*'s!!
