Map has been added to the vault, I took the elevators out of the proper map just to get them working in a quick to compile map.

http://www.twhl.co.za/vault.php?map=5345

I've basically given up with the multiple floor idea, but now I'm getting a rendering issue.

Post any ideas as comments to the map vault.

Thanks

Hmm that's sort of the thing I'm looking for.

I'm trying to build a lift like the one in the advanced version of that map, but which can go to any floor in any order. It's not a difficult idea to programme, but I can't think of any source maps with something like that.

Just about to post my WIP of this question to the map vault too. Its annoyingly over the 2MB limit of TWHL.

Hey all

Had a look around for tutorials, example maps and other threads, but couldn't find anything exactly on this.

I'm trying to make an elevator which stops at multiple floors based on which button was pressed (like a real elevator). Fairly confident I could have done this in the old engine with a func_train, and change the next_stop_targets of all the paths. But valve decided to get rid of the func_train it seems.

Any ideas on how to do this with the new engine?

Thanks

There was a topic here a while ago about reflections in HL1..... i knew i had seen them somewhere and i just found it! In the beginning of Blue Shift, when you are on the tram... and you go past the scientists in the canteen (they are behind glass), there is reflection in the floor of not only the tables but also the scientisits!

just a point to worldcraft dude: hair isnt made from dead skin cells.... they wouldnt last long enough before decomposing, its mainly made out of lond protein stands which are almost indestructible (which is why they can be used to identify people ie in a crime scene)

HL1 or 2?
HL1: this will be almost impossible! think of all the calculations you will have to do for pitch roll and yaw (unless the train doesnt go round a corner, in which case its set up just like the other carriages).

HL2: I have no clue... yet!

in Random events (read to blow your mind) Post #73858
Ok:
We all know the definition of Random right? An event which is in no way connected to other events or situations.

HOWEVER!
After much thought i came to realise that nothing is random.. computers are obviously not random because they cannot 'think' for themselves. And living things are not random because we are influenced by all the events and stimulus in our proximity (light,sound,smell...etc). This being true, means that no matter what choices we think we have, we cannot make because of all the external influences (consious and sub consious) in our proximity. The only way to be sure that you where making you OWN decision would be if you were simultaneously: Blind, Deaf and had no sense of touch, taste and smell! This means that if someone worked out which external influences were the most potent (had the greatest effect on decision making) they could in fact CONTROL YOU!

And just for general knowledge: any brush that moves (trains, elevators etc) doesnt obey the laws of 'clipping' by default. This means that they will move through other brushes without affecting them, so it cant 'push' a button by landing on it.
