The decals' color is stored in the last color of it's palette, I believe.

You'd be best making your own :( - I don't know of any custom decal sites.

I get a weapon error as well, but it still loads the EnvBalls. Try running it twice and check your weapons.

Brushes don't slow down compiling unless they're splitting everything, but in that case, you just haven't func_detailed.

Softimage with the ValveSource plugin lets one import a VMF and export to SMD. I prefer Max 7 for other modelling, but it's expensive :F

This happened early on in HL2. Ie, like, two days within release. Updates fixed it. Re-validate HL2 by clicking here:

steam://validate/220

Do not worry about the console's errors. VALVe removed some icons and the console is simply alerting the world of their non-presence. Ignore it.

Place a prop entiy. Moveable props are prop_physics, stationary props are prop_static. If your prop's not showing up, it's probably the opposite kind. Animated props are prop_dynamic, but we won't go into that.

Place your prop entity where you want a prop.

Open the properties. Under the model field, click the browse button.

Open the desired props folder. It will mount the GCF, no need to extract anything.

Pick a prop. Click Ok.

Click Apply.

Done.

The thumbnails offer a little view of the prop, I've got a listing of CS:S props with images here:

Nope. Source offers great capability for these sorts of games, though - Vampire: Bloodlines namely. Yes, the game is already written and (mostly) scripted, but you're offered enough flexibility to have a seemingly infinite amount of possiblities and tactics. Multiply that by the (six?) times you can replay the game as a different class of character (each with different dialogue options) and you get the idea.

Turn on your helpers and drag out the little circles from the center of the model - The inner one determines when it begins fading and the outer one determines when it's fully invisible. Don't set numbers manually, I always get horrid results when I do :x - You can adjust them to a more round number once you've set them with the helpers.

Half-Life 2 is much simpler to map for in terms of brush work - It's basically all models.
Yes, but one can make stunning brushwork and make a really nice map too. Props ain't everything...VALVe hasn't moved over to a full-3D editor as Epic did with UT2k4.

Dude, _gui texture isn't a standard HL2 texture :/ - I think it's just some stuff VALVe removed in the latest update - I also get loads of missing dmc, hl, opfor, etc textures when I run CS:S and it's not a problem, as this is not the texture used for the cubemap. (Cubemaps actually are textures which are built into the BSP when one runs the command.)

Run impulse 81 and you should get an empty SMG1 with an alternate icon. Those are the EnvBalls.

I'd stick with HL music. I'd be deterred if some mod had music I didn't particularly like. I prefer listening to my own music anyway.

HL1 is much more my type of environment, but Source is definitely the engine. Probably why I'm looking forward to Black Mesa: Source so much.

Did you check for problems in Hammer?

You should place hint brushes over all complex geometry. You see, non-func_brushed or func_detailed geometry will carve up the Binary Space Partition. This creates a number of leaves and portals and then they will begin to ineffectively split and wreak havoc on VIS.

props_c17 has light models.

The trick is using a glow sprite (glow.vmt is common) with a standard light entity. I've examined the VALVe maps and it seems light_spots are very common, as well, as replacements for lights, as they offer more flexibility. Play around with interior angles on quadratic lights.

Um, it's a standard engine error I think.

Run with high-detailed shaders and your cubemaps are more noticeable.

I can have a crack at a somewhat better model sometime if you wish.

Looks spiffy. Your ambient needs to be darker though, the buildings seem too bright for what light the lamps would provide.

Afaik it's all possible, too :) - The problem is that it takes a large enough amount of entity work to drive one insane. Let me think about how one would accomplish this, I'd have to write it all down.

If you're playing by the book, United States Copyright governs that distributing copyright content without the author's permission is illegal.

However, there are millions of people participating in online music sharing. Only a select few people have been targeted for the offenses, and the government seems focused on going after people redistributing movies instead. While it's technically illegal, the chances of them targeting you for the offense would be unlikely.

It's not. For some reason they've disabled it by default as I think there's a problem when loading Flash applets, a bug on Macromedia's part and not Mozilla's.

Be leet and modify your copy of FF to display pages faster (I do hope you're on Broadband)

Type about:config in the address bar.

Look for:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Set Pipelining to true, Proxy Pipelining to true, and set MaxRequests to something like 30.

Right-click somewhere and select New - Integer. Name it nglayout.initialpaint.delay and set a value of 0.
