I know this question doesn't directly relate to Half-Life or mapping, but Half-Life and CS look like crap without it. I just installed Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 and when I start CS it says that it doesn't support the video mode and will switch to software mode. I sent an e-mail off to reg@glsetup.com and I think that they might help me, but I am still open to suggestions. I still have the video driver that I was using before, I think, but maybe not for the graphics card. Also, I can't read from the Half-Life CD, but I can from other CDs like Quake 3. TIA

I have checked several pages of this forum section and I can't find an answer. How do you make srcipted or aiscripted sequences loop? I have tried using multi_managers, trigger autos, and checking the repeatable flag in on the sequence but I can't get it to work. When ever I check the repeatable flag, it seams, the guy stays motionless in the first frame of his sequence.

I just got my Grandparents old computer a few days ago and I have reinstalled windows, HLMV, HL, Hammer, Microsoft Works and the works, along with winzip wally and several other programs. Now I chat more than ever and my website it coming along well now (geocities.com/paulkennedym/) or at least I think so. It still has a white bg but all the links work (I'm pretty sure) and all the images show up.

Can anyone give me some cool HL wallpaper? I'd prefer HL not HL2, but both are fine. I've got one of the lamba symbol with a kinda red/gray background. What I would really like, though, is the cover of the half-life box without gordon or anything on it. You know the loading screen for HL without the console activated? Something like that, without Gordon.

I think it would be a good idea if there was a section of the website that had people's .wad files. That way they could easily share them if they wanted too. I know it wouldn't be your work if someone else did it, but people might need textures of cities if they live in the rural areas and vise versa. What do you guys think?

Getting a Fileplanet account really wouldn't be practical for me. My Internet connection is like, 3kb/s when it's good. However, at the school I can download a 50 mb (which would take, like, a day on my computer) in, like, 2 minutes so if I get a laptop I could use the school's wireless internet connection... I might do just do that.

ID is my favorite game creator! From Wolf3d, to Q1, 2, and 3 Arena, to Doom 1, 2, and 3, to Heretic! (I've played all of those but Doom 3). Valve comes in close second ;)!

Do you know why it's called ID? The Wolf3d 'read this' says...

Yes, that's Id, as in the id, ego, and superego in the psyche.

Id is my all time favorite. I have played their games since I was, like, 5.

What I really find interesting is that almost all prerealse images of Half-Life are from this version. I figured most of it would be from the newer version. Also, you'll notice that a lot of the images look very similar to areas in Half-Life. Some secions, however, such as the marine-scietist interigation that gets out of hand was cut from the final version. I would've liked to see what that was like. I also want to see some of the videos that the planethalflife/nostalgia site has but of course they are all fileplanet and I'm too cheap to get an account. Do any of you have one by the way? Where do you all get your stuff? I got hl and opp for from a friend. As for They Hunger and USS Darkstar, I got those off a a demo CD. I've never even played over the internet before. I feel like I'm really missing out. When ever I try to connect to WON it says that it couldn't esatblish a connection or some such crap. I've read stuff about WON being dead before. What is that all about? I don't have steam. Do I need that to play multiplayer? I know this thread has turned into a new category, sorry.

Did you guys know about this? Half-Life was orginally going to look like this: HLNP ? WOW! Look at some of those old screenies! Especially the ones like the one of the rocket silo test chamber place. I can hardly believe it! I am soooo gald that the original game wasn't the final version.

I took some pictures of my high school and put them into a .wad file and I put it in a folder called C:SierraHalf-Lifenhs (narraguagus high school). Whenever I tried to run the map it kept giving me the error message 'could not find valvenhs.wad'. I tried setting the game options in hammer to game directory: nhs and mod directory: nhs, both, and seperatly. I copied the wad file into the valve directory and it works now, but how do I make it so that it will read the wad file in the nhs directory? Thanks.

What is the point of these 01, 02, 03 .mdl files in the .pak file? When I try to view them with HLMV it says 'Error reading model header,' but in half-life I see loading modelsscientist03.mdl. Anyone know what these files are for? Thanks.

Maybe it's invalid for some reason. Did you try putting it in the logos directory first? Did it show up when you went to multiplayer>customize ?

Ah, I have it figured out now. You see, I wanted a grate on the door that could be shot through, like the one in office complex that leads to the room where the scientist gets pulled into the vent. The one with the television? Anyway, I found out that you can't shoot through that grate. I guess you can't make a clip brush that rotates with the door after all. Yes, I know all about origin brushed, however. Welp, I guess that's it. Thanks for your help!

I think you have to type ambience/loader_hydra1.wav and ambience/loader_step1.wav. Make sure you don't type . I had problems with this. I wonder why they didn't give the loader it's own folder instead of putting it in ambience?

That's weird. I have all of them but fonts.wad. Huh. Maybe I have an old version of HL. I can't update, either, for some gay reason. I think I connection is too slow. Ticks me off. Anyway, can you give a copy of fonts.wad to me via e-mail? I'd really appreciate it as I can't view half the maps I download from TWHL. Thanks. (By the way, I just downloaded one of your maps. Haven't opened it yet. Can't wait!)

Hey everyone. Tell me what your favorite part of HL was. My favorite parts were Office Complex, We've Got Hostiles, Blast Pit, Powerup, and On-a-rail. Particularly Office Complex and We've got Hostiles. I liked the fifties, cold war feeling. I also think that the best half of the game is the part with the marines. I didn't really like fighting aliens or exploring the Xen world as much as I did trying to escape from marines.
Anyway, tell me what you all think!

I was wondering this myself. If you figure out a way to set the skill level while making a map change maybe you can type that in the DOS Shell or compile options window. Also is there a way to set flags when giving an item during game play? Like, I want a suit with a short logon? I tried a few things like: give item_suit 1 and give item_suit (1) but they didn't work.

When people release a MOD do they usually do so for money? I got USS Darkstar and They Hunger (both by Neil Manke) off of some cd's with nothing but free demos and stuff on them. If I made a mod would there be anyway I could make some money from it? Not that not making any money would keep me from making the mod but file planet costs money to download stuff and I thought if I gave it to them there might be a little something in it for me?

Is it possible to make a single brush in the shape of a cube with a corner taken off for example? If you use the carve tool it cuts it into two peices and if you use the clip tool it screw it up really badly.
