There are fragments and references to Quake engine code in Source, but for the most part, the engine is actually new. While it runs on the same principle rendering technique that Goldsource did, the engine itself is totally different. For starters, Goldsource (and by extension, the Quake engines) use OpenGL. Source doesn't: it uses DirectX.

Mapping for Source will be completely impossible on a Mac unless you're running XP. EA's move only affects EA developed games, not published ones.

EA are bringing over a bunch of their current games to the Mac platform. It's not a direct dump either: the games have to be retooled somewhat to work.

Not bad at all. The first screenshot lacks texture variation, it's too much of a muddled mass of grey textures. I'd add some contrasting trims or something to bring out the mapping a little better: don't let the water become the focus of an area just cos it uses a cool shader. I would say the same thing about the third screenshot: the tile texture doesn't seem to be properly applied to all those surfaces and it aligns strangely as a result. I think the underside of the ceiling braces should have a different texture, rather than the tile you've used on the wall. If you don't want that, align it a little better.

Apart from that, quite good. Now, port it to Source.

Yes, NotePad++ is the official TWHL Developers Tool. I used it to do all the markup and PB coded like a mofo with it.

Don't be offended if we shoot down certain suggestions btw: we have taken onboard a fair few suggestions from members in the past, so don't think we hate you or anything like that. :P

Opera's even more secure than Firefox too, but yeah, I don't use ActiveX at all as a general rule of thumb. PB and I absolutely hate IE: the shit we had to do to get TWHL3 partially working on IE6 and below was ridiculous. Heck, even on IE7 it was a stretch.

Yes, you have to be online when you load up Steam for the first time after. The install package basically has nothing: all of Steam's files are downloaded after the install.
