now that's just ridiculous. Maps DO look cool in notepad though.

Working all day today, and then hitting up the beach later because i need to relieve some massive amounts of stress. Maybe after the beach, I'll work on my cathedral a little more.

Entity-Work Competition 1: Rune Goldberg Machine
Rules:
Make a Rune Goldberg Machine (Chain Reaction Machine) That has a series of complex steps in order to complete a simple task. Such as opening a door, or making toast.

Entries cannot include any custom .wads or models because this is NOT a brushwork competition, it's strictly for smooth flowing and believable entity work.

Entries must have at least 5 steps or events (such as a boot kicking a bucket, or a mousetrap springing something...) that can be started with the simple push of a button.

The player cannot be a part of, or interfere with any of the events, but feel free to include any enemy AI you wish.

The machine can be of any scale, but the entire series of events MUST BE VISIBLE FROM ONE OBSERVATION POINT IN THE MAP. Example: A large outdoor area, with observer in a tower. Whatever

Place the completed .rmf and .bsp in the completed section of the map vault, post a link to the map vault page on this thread.

Deadline is may 15th at Midnight EST time. (I live on the USA east coast. sue me(not really, dont sue me(please)))

Its melodic hard rock.
Breaking Benjamin is our main influence and Dave, the vocalist, is still a bit uncomfortable in the studio.
And MOP, we overdubbed the rhythm guitar for "Sore" so something might have gone awry with the tuning, but its still a better version than the original.

hahah yeah. as soon as i get back home, i'm gonna wipe my HD and downgrade to XP.
vista is cool but everyone is right. It's too new.
Illl get it when halo 2 comes out for it hahha.

only reason i got it was because it was free from my skool.

There might not be an update today as i have to work and there's a major paper due tomorrow.

I'll see what i can do, and thanks for the input.

For the meantime, does anyone have a good stone texture pack?
I'm going to check wadfather but i was wondering if anyone just has oe lying around.

@ espen180 and BL : I'm going to make the rest of the cathedral first then search for / create my own textures for the doors. I do agree that they look silly.

Despite vista sucking, i just cant deal with source anymore. I'm taking a break. There's too much stuff to learn and i don't feel like messing with it yet.
I've become quite accustomed to mapping with solid polygons now and i started work on a new HL1 deathmatch map that will hopefully make it to muzz's server if he approves.

Anyway.

It's based off the tuam cathedral and i already have the front entrance mapped out and i'm just hoping to have some blood and gore inside a church. I'll post some screenshots as soon as their worthy of being posted. Which means.. It'll take a while because i have an english paper to write, calc test to study for, and next week is finals week.

SO

needless to say it's gonna be a while, and im not even going to have any custom content, well, because there's no vista compatible photoshops out there that i can use free of charge (lets not get into that)

As for the map, it's a good start. I can see the area pictured as one of the bomb sites, with wings extending off in each of the four directions where the CT's/T's would start.
That's exactly what i was thinking about. And a dusk map is a good idea. I started work on one of the alleys branching off the main section today.

Just the basics for now. I'll add some more detail in a bit. Now that i have decided to work on it, i have to come up with a layout. So i'll keep working toward a useful layout.
I'm still getting used to the insane amount of detail needed for source maps. So any criticism on what i have already is still appreciated

I haven't put any thought into the layout of this map yet, but i just started building, and i have a center courtyard area. I think it looks pretty cool and if i keep the level of detail i could have a really good looking level as a final result. But before i pursue making the rest of the map, i thought i'd throw it out here to see what you guys think. here are some screen shots.

I started with the center four pillars and just built from there. i used the textures themselves to inspire me to create the rest.
