Yes, I do, Rabid. Not very well yet, I must say, but I try :).

Anthony: I strongly recommend some nice cooling for your next PC. Didn't you say your parents might well pay for the PC itself? You could buy it ? would make you look appreciative and get you a lovely quiet PC.

Zalman ftw.

Overclocking Athlon XPs seems very easy and safe. Not played with voltages, and doubt I will (I wanted to undervolt, but I can't with this motherboard). Heat

in Video Stress Test and suggestions Post #120209
I get a cross-test average of about 47.5fps with:

AMD Athlon XP 2400+ (OC 16.5%) at 166MHz FSB (OC 25%)
2x512MB Generic DDR2700 (unmatched)
Sapphire ATI RADEON 9800 (stock speeds :()

Resolution: 1280x1024 (this makes astonishingly little difference)
Models: High
Textures: Med (only because of the nasty 9800 bugs still in Source)
Shaders: High
Shadows: High
Water: Reflect World
AA: 2xT2
AF: 4X
Vsync: Disabled

CPU speed/FSB (memory-processor interface in most systems) makes a huge difference to in-game performance. Not so much in the stress test, but where I was getting 16fps in assault with some bots and a mate, I was later getting 35-odd from clocking my old AMD Athlon XP 2400+ from the stock 2.00GHz (15x133MHz FSB) to 2.32GHz (14*166MHz FSB). Then again, upping the FSB meant that my RAM and the bus were running in syncronisation, so I probably got a considerable extra benefit there.

Then again, that might well not be too much of an option in a notebook. Also, I'm lucky in that I've got a multiplier-unlocked CPU straight from the factory.

I'll post a comparison on my 64-bit laptop with a 9700 later today if I remember :).

Ant, overclock if you can? I clocked back to stock speeds for troubleshooting BF2 and forgot to change it back and was getting ~14fps. Clocked the FSB from 133MHz to 166MHz and the resultant CPU speed from 2GHz to 2.3GHz, and it doubled.

## degenerate faces
Degenerate faces are generally an unknown anamoly, but they can be tracked down. Generally this compile error comes up when Hammer cannot fix the 'Invalid Solid Structure' in-world-editor map error, so it spits out saying that it cannot fix it and ends.
"CanonicalVector: Degenerate"
"You've combined brushes into a func_water that doesn't form a rectangle (or damn close to a rectangle). Func_waters are notorious for being STUPID. I got this error just combining two worldbrushes that made up an L shape into a func_water." If it isn't the water (most common), then check your triggers and other brush entitys, odd shaped/illegal trigger brushes can also cause this error.

That's nonsense, Elon.

Half-dude, all lighting information is compiled into the ZIP. Only HLRAD uses lights.rad. There is no need to distribute it (unless you're dishing out the RMF/MAP too, in which case people wouldn't be able to get the lighting right).
