Im not planning this as a hige multiplayer thing. Which is why the halo engine one probably got cancelled. Its not too in-depth, i just want to re-create some of the puzzles.

Im not making the giant world map, and there's gonna be differences.

If nintendo wants to stop me, so be it, i'll stop. I'm almost done with link's house anyway.

annnnnnd notice te expected release date for that hl1 mod.... 2004... and the thing says 12% done... yeah. rioght about that :-D

Just wondering, but i've made REALLY complex maps and the compile times never went anywhere above 20 minutes.. what systems are you guys running??

Anyway.

Mapping tips... yeah..

I map with a laptop, and as annoying as it it, i learned to utilize my hotkeys well

The D key zooms in, whereas the C key zooms out. the [ and ] keys change the grid size. i no longer use my mouse to navigate the 3-d view, as W, S, A, and D work perfectly. (Just mess with the acceleration settings in the options) Um i also changed my default entity to a light instead of an Info_player_start, because im usually placing more lights in my maps than player starts.

and if you're doing a lot of node placing. You can change the default to a node and then just click everywhere in the 3-d view to place them. saves a lot of time and it comforms to any fake-displacement you created.

Ok
In the lights flags, tick the "start on"
and in the sprite's flags leave the "start on" box UNCHECKED

Tick toggle for both

And they should switch on and off upon the button mashing.

yeah . that works but the angular velocity stays the same even when the door is closing. So you would need 2 entities that teleport to the restart to get the rolling actually looking half-way decent.

Trust me i spent hours on this with the minicompo #8
i had it working with minor glitches but then i just gave up

I really should've made my last door rotate out. Only thing was i caouldnt synch the rolling and i would've needed 2 doors to teleport in eachother's place. so i just kinda gave up and sent in a sliding one.

Ok you want the button to trigger an env_glow
make the render mode = glow, and set the FX amount to 255.
the sprite should default as glow01.spr.

That should work for ya

Title is just a name i thought up randomly linking ZELDA and HALF-LIFE (2 of the best VG titles EVER)
Anyway i had an idea, a brilliant idea (at least i thought)

To re-create the first half of Ocarina of time using the half life engine.

Here's my thoughts

All the levels and puzzles will be basically the same. some modifications must be made of course..

But crowbar and pistol will be used mainly. (Sword/ slingshot)

And boss battles will be gargs. in each of the 3 beginning dungeons there's a certain type of weapon strewn about that you regularly cannot get.

I was thinking.. for the deku tree use the 9mm ar grenades

dodongo's cavern - satchel charges / regular nades

jabu jabu - rocket launchers

So basically u play through the game solving the puzzles and defeating enemies using your sword(crowbar) and slingshot (pistol) and when u get to the boss u use that special weapon thats in the arena.

When you're finished with the dungeon i'll use a player weapon_strip to take away that special item and you'll be fully re-imbursed with pistol ammo and health/energy (if i can) MAYBE even add 10hp to your total suit health..

Now this is just an idea ATM. im gonna finish up making my Dm_Deku map (currently in the unfinished section of the vault) and see if i can make kakariko village run smoothly on the hl engine.

I cant do much right now becaue my GC is in college with the master quest/LOZOOT cd and i dont do the ROM thing, so the earliest i can have some screenies of suttin will probably be mid january.
Once again, this is still an idea, but im pretty psyched about it.

so, what do you think?

Yes, i actually found that out after the 25 minutes i put into typing that up. My mod is slightly different from POV because its not from the vort's perspective but it gives a little background to how they became slaves, and you (player) are fighting with the vortiguant resistance against the alien grunts, and the humans. Its a cool thing i got going.

Im not adding, yet this is my own story.. well not MINE per-say. but.. you'll figure it out.

They took all of us.

One by one, they marched us, helpless, into the carriers. We were treated as inferiors despite the fact that all of us knew that wasnt the case. Our intellect is far superior to theirs. Our power of widsom is greater than our power to fight, but that's the reason they took us. They wanted the power to fight. That's the reason for our collective enslavement.

The controllers watched over us from above, keeping tabs on all our actions. Making sure we completed the tasks they screached at us. The warriors, clad in armor would deal with any resistors. Death by "Big Momma" was usually the penalty but occasionally a few hornets to the abdomen would do the trick. And after a few hours of flinching they got back to the assigned task. The crude, yet effective collars kept us "In line." They tried to convince us all that it was "For our own good" but we knew that was not the case. The moment the green metal came in contact with our skin, we all felt our souls die. All hope was lost, and our powers have been transformed, controlled- But far from pacified.

No longer were our abilities used for peaceful purposes. They had war in mind, and the one day the so called "rift" had opened, we knew our time had come.

We fought alongside our masters against the common enemy. The strange creatures clad in white, blue and strange mixtures of green. They all fell to our armies might despite the fact our kind (not our masters) did not fight to the best of our ability. Many lacked the will to fight and just wanted to die. To the masses, death is greater than the imprisonment they are currently facing.
And did death come swiftly to those who wanted it.

There is one creature unlike anyother, that leaves oblivion in his wake. It never seems to die, and when death seems immanent, he comes back with a diferent attack plan, stronger, and more confident than ever before.The different one is not green or white, or even blue. He occasionally seems to be fighting for both sides. He is the one who truely has freedom, the freedom of choice. He destroys our kind, and his kind alike. The orange one, as the survivors heard dubbed "Free Man" spares the blue and white creatures.. Yet tears through the green ones like he was one of us.

What a fitting title "Free Man" Really is.

The rest of us, all the lucky suvivors, who's masters have been slain, all talk about this "Free Man"
He is truely free, and we all wonder "Why can't we be?"

-I bet you know who're P.O.V this is coming from. It was inspired by a mod that im making.. Dont expect to see it anytime soon, its still in dev stages.

I got the model viewer for halflife and i started looking through some because i was bored and there seems to be a few enemy models that have animations and death sequences that arent in the game (or at least i didnt see any of them)

I was just wondering could these be used as enemies and if u can use them, do they have A.I.

Ok i placed a cube map in every room and every dark hallway.
I'm still getting the glossy fingernails nd the glowing generator effects. Here are some screenshots of my problems.

that t- screenshot looks a bit like the old cs_assault
but i like the concept. if u need ideas check out some DOD maps. they usually have destruction. maybe make a snowy cs version based off of that really popular DoD map... i forget the name i want to say anzio but im not sure thats correct.. grr this is gonna bother me
