I put my tools in the "tools" directroy in the valve hammer editor directory, but I'm not sure it matters where they are...try moving them!

Double check/Redo your Game configurations and Build Programs menu settings using the Steam tutorial.

If you still can't get it to work, post screenies of the aformentioned menus.

Incidentally:

What version of Hammer are you using?
What Version of ZHLT are you using?

Have you tried running with fast VIS?

I pretty much run fast VIS on all but final compiles, and it seems to me to save lots of time...

2 hours is still WAY to long to wait imo ;)

You should be able to remove them, or disable new games poping up...

We all paid for steam and Half-life--some of us twice because our cd keys were raped. Why should we have to keep paying for it through this shamless marketing, from which there is no escape.

in how do you make models breakable in CS? Post #194584
The eightball was done the same way as the wine bottle. Take a closer look and you'll see that it renders away when shot, and the invisible func_breakable shoots rock gibs!

If you make the "material type" for the func_breakable glass, it should look pretty good imo.

There is also a field in the func_breakable for "gib model" which you could make a nice custom gib model--see milkshape--matching the bottle. I've never used that field, so I'm not sure if it works... so if it doesn't, use an env_shooter to "fire" the custom gib.

If you don't know how to model, Lots of people here will make them for you, like Rimrook and others.

Rim knows how to animate too, so maybe he could make an animated breaking bottle, but I'm not sure about that :P

Yeah it's funny. My old laptop was regular aspect ratio and I liked it. When I was shopping for a new one, I wanted the same-sized screen, but only the wide ones came with decent video cards.

Now that I've grown accustomed to the wider screen, it's really hard for me to look at anything not so :P

in My current project: bar shootout Post #194574
I wondered about this myself, and though I had some ideas how to do it, I instead just decompiled cs_italy and saw how they did it :P

The Chicken:
Cycler_sprite of a chicken.
Func_breakable "underneath" the chicken, rendered invisble, targeting an env_render and a gib shooter.

This way when you shoot the invisible func_breakable, it renders the chicken model invisble, and simultaneously shoots chicken gibs at you :P

Wine bottle
Cycler_sprite of the wine bottle.
Func_breakable underneath, and like the chicken, targets an env_render.

This time though, the glass gibs come from the func_breakable, and not a gib shooter. It appears an invisible func_breakable still shows visible gibs when shot, which I never knew!

O RLY?

I don't think you can scale HL models using Jed's HLMV, except for soley "looking" at the models. HLMV doesn't alter the models afaik.

You have to decompile them outside hammer--using milkshape I think--, scale them, and then copy to your models folder.

PM WCD or search the forums for more detailed info. I'm pretty sure there are tons of tutorials on how to do this on the google as well ;)

System Restore is utterly useless
I totally disagree, but i'll agree that it isn't the end-all to every problem.

It's not System Restore's fault you got a virus, and it was never intended to protect you against them!!

It's saved my butt a couple of times, that's for sure.

I Have mine set to 1% of my HDD or 1.2GB. It's good for at least half-a-dozen restore points afaik, which I can't see why you would ever need more than that.

in how to add pistols on ground in CS? Post #193991
ZL is correct. You could also add a cycler_sprite, with the weapons w_pistolname.mdl--don't use the p_pistolname, or bad things will happen!--and env_render it away the model when the pistol is "picked up".

If I have time, I'll do an example map.

Post your new compile log, and check your "Game Configurations" and "Build Programs" in Hammer to make sure all is right there as well. Post screenies of them if you want.

That's what it was set to, until I turned it down! :)
Rowley you've never defragged?!?!
What I meant was I never monitored my HDD space before/after Defragging to see if it impacted free space.

On my old machine I never defragged at all! Now, I do it every month or so :)

Satchmo: Neat...I'll check that one out as well.

Yeah, and that's the problem. I don't think it would be hard at all to make the exact, same-looking map in HL1.

You wouldn't be able to match the volumetric light and reflective water exactly...but they could be approximated with a little trickery of course.

I really need to start using Sequoiaview myself... maybe tonight I will try it!

A couple things you wouldn't think of that take up lots of space, but do:

-3GB of Dod Screen shots--I hit f5 everytime I get multiple or nade kills, or see cool architeture :)

-1.2GB saved by disabling hibernation

-12GB for system restore--I bumped it down to 1 or 2 I think.

-600MB by purging my "local settings" folder

-600MB in .mdmp files in valvE folder

I think Defraging frees up space, but I've never checked to confirm. I've heard of HDD cleaners out there but never tried them.

Good Luck!
