KSP is so fucking cool now. It's mind-boggling how much it's grown since I first played it - probably around 2 years ago. It didn't even have the Mun back then!

Yes, it's Battlefield 4. Hella great game.

Those are glorious Satchmo. The first one in particular is so mischievous. Marvellous!

I just spent all my pennies on a Panasonic GH3 - primarily for its exceptional video datarate (72Mb/s - almost double the BBCHD minimum requirement for broadcast in the UK) but it's also a fantastic stills camera. I don't have any particularly exciting lenses yet and I've been working so much that I've barely had time to play with it, but here're a few shots I've come up with so far. There are full res options for a few of them for comparison. The RAW shots come out at about 19.5MB each, so the full res images have been compressed slightly with Photoshop.

I don't think the MotM itself needs to be more visible, but I do think there's still an element of the reviews not being obvious enough up at the top right.

Perhaps links with the reviewer's avatar under a nice big "Reviews:" heading below the main MotM score page. This presumably wouldn't be too difficult to add since the review submission page already asks for the reviewer's user ID.

No need to wait, LaVolpe, the motm publishing tools support multiple reviews. It's just a matter of either penguinboy giving you motm admin rights or myself or one of the other team members publishing a review on your behalf.

Having the motm winner in shot gets you bonus points.

For me it really started feeling like a thankless task. Myself and a few others were trying really hard to zap some life back into the community with MotMs, retro tournaments and prizes, etc.

At the end of the day it just seemed like too much effort for little to no gain. It wasn't attracting new members and existing members didn't seem to care, as dwindling vote figures all too clearly showed.

If it was to work, I think a general motm discussion thread would be necessary. It'd provide a way to discuss candidates and reviews and arrange tests and games in a less closed setting than each review's own comment stream.

I also think it might work best if, once the winner was revealed with its one or two 'official' reviews, users were encouraged to write their own reviews. This'd provide the most useful gains for winners. How this could be achieved, I don't know. Perhaps some sort of submission system like the one for tutorials, which has the 5 criteria we judges motms on and automatically calculates the percentage score based on the user's inputs. It's a stage above basic comments and the 5 star system

I'll throw my hat back in for a while at least if a restart is planned. Just bought myself a new camera and a couple of new lights so it'd be a good platform to test those. Although we do have to come to terms with the fact that even if it does start up again, no video review will ever be as good as the one for de_twhl2011

in Steam's knocking it up a notch Post #315933
Few people will invest in a second living room playing PC.
That is basically what this gen and the next gen of consoles are - purpose-focused PCs - and millions of people invest in them despite owning PCs. Also the ability to stream from a more powerful gaming rig is brilliant.

There are games that are always going to be better at a desk with a mouse and keyboard - FPS, RTS, TBS, Simulations, etc. but I much prefer playing platformers, sports games and beat-em-ups on the couch. It's a far more social environment. I don't buy into consoles, though, because the games are overpriced and the systems are extremely closed. An open system with Steam's prices? Fucking yes.
Is Valve planning to walk hand in hand with Linux against Microsoft?
Not so dramatically, but Gabe has been very outspoken about his dislike for Windows 8 and its closed nature (the exact same reasons I hate consoles and Apple) so it makes sense that he's moving Valve onto the only remaining open platform. The SteamOS will not be competing as a desktop alternative. Not yet, at least.

Choosing a Steam installed game will crash every time I choose 'Half-Life', though cstrike and blue shift will not crash.
When choosing 'mod' without Steam Install ticked, it will snap back to cstrike every time I open game config. The Core does appear in the list and I am applying and closing every time I choose it.

Thrilled to bits that this has made it to alpha! I'ma repost a PM I sent you years ago, though, because I still think it'd be a great addition!
Mocked this up quickly to demonstrate a couple of ideas I had for the face editor.
Firstly a random shift function which works with the "treat as one" tickybox. It would allow you to quickly randomize, for example, a set of stairs so that they don't so obviously tile on the X plane.

Secondly, something gtkRadient has which always amazed me wasn't implemented in Hammer 4 - a tiling fit option so that you can fit, say, 4 tiles of a texture to a face rather than just stretching it to 1, untiled fit. This is extremely useful.

the motm is up to date.

Lets use the current July one as an example:

Voting for july's motm can't be done until august, else all the possible submissions wouldn't be there. because of how slow this community is, it was felt necessary to allow an entire month for voting.

It's now September and voting for july's motm is over meaning the review process can begin. All of the review team have jobs and other commitments, so again a whole month is allowed...

It's October 1st and the reviews are published. Nobody reads or watches them and absolutely nobody comments on them resulting in the review team wondering why they bother.
Of course that doesn't matter either since there were ZERO votes from the community in July anyway, so clearly nobody would miss the feature if we just stopped.

The TWHL ship Worm has arrived safely in sector two, emerging from a nauseating FTL jump into a gassy nebula. Nebulas, while indefinably sexual have the added effect of disrupting sensors – both internal and external. As a result, we can only monitor rooms that currently contain crewmembers.
User posted image
What an excellent opportunity to remind you of the crew roles! In the pilot’s seat we have Strider – an Engi with synthetic origins expertly skilled in repairing ship systems. Manning the guns is Ant, the ship’s only human crewman. He’s providing a cooldown reduction between shots. At the shield generator, keeping the shields up is Pebs, another Engi. Both him and Strider speak with a ridiculous Australian accent for some reason. Must be an Engi thing. Finally we have Nathan, a freed slave Mantis, skilled in hand-to-mandible combat and currently providing an evasion bonus in the engine room.
A benefit of the nebula is that as well as blocking our own sensors, it also hides us from the approaching fleet of rebels constantly chasing us, hindering their progress. However, we can’t stay here indefinitely! We have a mission to accomplish! Time to FTL the FTL out of here!
First jump in sector 2 brings the Worm up against a Rebel Rigger, typically used for mining. It’s barely armed, but does have the exact same class of attack drone we’ve been using so far to outsmart our enemies. If they manage to bring down our shields, the attack drone will cause havoc!
User posted image
Fortunately it’s only sector 2, and for some reason ships this side of the galaxy are a bit rubbish so they quickly surrender, offering their best security officer as a bargaining chip. Pipaluk the Mantis joins us! We may have to change the dinner menu now that there are two Mantises (Mantii?) to cater for.
User posted image
They also provide us with a Breach missile launcher – it does very little damage to hull integrity, but causes small fractures that vent oxygen from the enemy ship. Missiles also completely disregard shields which only protect against energy weapons. Always pleasant!
After just one more jump it looks like we might have opportunity to test it! A well-armed bully of a ship is claiming the jump beacon as their own and demand tribute to pass.
User posted image
I think not! Breach missile awaaaaay! A direct hit on their weapons systems render them useless, and a quick couple of blasts from our patented attack drone finishes them off. The scrap gained allows us to purchase an engine upgrade, increasing our chance to dodge incoming attacks.
User posted image
The next jump brings us up against a fairly standard scenario – an unmanned drone attacking a friendly station. The Worm intervenes, of course, but oh my goodness! We’ve come up against a stealth ship and can’t target it until its stealth drive runs out of power!
User posted image
Conveniently, to afford a stealth drive they traded off having shields, and they’re space dust just seconds after uncloaking. The station we just saved compensates our effort with a kickass Hull Smasher laser.
User posted image
It pretty much does what it says on the tin – massive hull damage, very little system damage. Unfortunately it has massive power requirements as well as needing an overall weapons system upgrade to use which we won’t be able to afford for some time.
For the first time in ages, our next jump doesn’t lead to combat! Instead a small independent trader has set up shop above an uninhabited planet.
User posted image
Their wares are a bit rubbish, but I sell the breach missile launcher for more scrap and use it to fully repair our hull.
The rest of the system is fairly uneventful until the penultimate jump where we stumble across a heavily armed rebel fighter class ship. Curiously they hail us and offer their services to delay the approaching rebel fleet. What nonsense, charge weapons!
User posted image
And so we arrive at the system’s final jump beacon just ahead of the approaching wave of the enemy fleet.
User posted image
With weapons systems upgraded enough to use the new Hull Laser (albeit still unpowered) and a fully repaired hull, things are looking bright for sector 3!
User posted image
Also Strider didn’t die for some reason.
