Have loads of stuff on my hands at the moment, really can't find much time to spend on 6-D. In 6 months though, we should have something to show.

True, Freshed, this definitely isn't completely "fair", however we're only disabling the clearly spammed ratings (40 five-stars for e.g) for any submission we consider poorer. And again, if any of you disagree with the disabling of any map, state it here and we may just reconsider.

You really can't efficiently do this any other, 100% fair way.

If you vote for a political party
Bad example. We're not talking choose exhibit A or B, we're talking evaluate and review. Have you seen any film/movie/book reviews that just give them stars and no reasons to back their rating up? Me neither.

Fact is, poor maps aren't supposed to be in the top maps section. However, if the removal of a pointed out "poor" map is disagreed upon by the majority, it won't be removed. Democratic enough? ;>

I can't see any reason why an in-your-eyes shitty dust remake can't make it to the top maps? Voting is a democratic action and if there are a lot of people who like that remake then who are you to say '.. pfft, that doesnt belong in the list'.
If we find at least one coherent review/reason posted by users as to why they've given the map 5* - it won't have its rating disabled.

Madcow: Removed.

I'm sure it has come to most of your attention that the proud Top Maps section on the front page is constantly hogged up by rather.. how should I put this.. er.. shit. Tis' our slightly short-of-perfect ancestral rating system that once made it possible for those horrible levels to make it amongst our most praised submissions.

However, that's nothing us manly & heroic Map Vault moderators can't tackle! Editing those not-so-awesome entries and disabling their ratings seems to fix this nuisance.

The only problem is: there's far too much scum for the few of us to track down! That's where you come in. Your job is simple: If you find a spam-rated fullbright hollow cube, dust remake or another example of poor mapping in the Top Maps section, report it in this thread and we'll make sure it never surfaces again.

Thank-you for your co-operation.
, the friendly folks from the Map Vault.

P.S: Thanks to Hunter for bringing the issue up again.

in Wheres the hldm server Post #261140
It's down. Didn't have any cash at that moment to extend the service, as well as held a slight grudge against the providers for not fixing the lag problem for almost a month (in other words, making 1/3 of what I paid them a waste).

Was thinking of finding a different provider and buying another server, yet ~30-40 eu is a rather big sum for me; I'm wondering if any of the TWHLers interested in HLDMing would be up for chipping in to pay for a bigger & faster server and co-own it (so far I know MuzzleFlash is). TWHL events alone are far from enough to keep a server busy, so any of the co-owners would be free to host any personal events/matches on it as well.

1) hmm... are hostages considered monsters? If they are, then I know how I'd do it. Guess I'll try it out when I have time.
I'd say yes, unless CS has completely re-vamped the entity type class system. Afaik, CS hostages are based off HL scientists, making them NPCs or monsters, as HL calls them.

I'm not sure if monster-only trigger flags still exist in CS though. You may also have to use both the HL and CS FGDs at the same time to see it in-hammer.

1) Not really possible as far as I know. You could experiment with a trigger, which has its flags set to Monsters-only though.

2) The lip value of the door determines how far it travels. Experiment with it.

3) Most probably a server plugin.

4) zhlt.wad has the NULL texture, though you can use any kind of image in any kind of .wad file as long as its named NULL.

5) Open up the entity properties of your info_player_start. The top compass (top right) defines the direction which the player will face when spawned. The direction the compass is pointing at is equivalent to the same direction in Hammer's Top perspective window.

Nice stuff there, Rim.

And wow, very neat progress there, Hrny. What doesn't seem to come together though is the roof. Those wooden beams outside are way too dense (go for 3x less or so), also, you can't see them inside, which doesn't look too logical. And if it's a tile roof, it has to be somehow diagonal - never go for flat unless it's concrete.

1. Done before. Google Janitor's Adventure, I think.
2, 3. Fairly unoriginal.

Keep in mind that HL was modded to unbelievable extents in almost any possible way during the 10 years of its glorious existence. There's hundreds, if not a few thousand Black Mesa-themed mods, so making something original out of that story is now close to impossible. Same applies to sci-fi and zombie mods. The way to go with HL nowadays is something completely oddball and out-of-the-box. Think unique gameplay style/techniques.

Tbh, I think experience evolves life. What I'm trying to say is... that when somebody has a aggresive nature, that either can be stimulated or toned down. Certain experiences and methods happened in that somebody's life either stimulate or tone down that aggresive nature; this is different for every person, it's one of those things that make us unique and complicated beings. Anyways, I do think violent games can stimulate aggresion if that persons 'refencechart' (hopefully you know what I mean, can't get the English word for it) is completely messed up due taken experiences in life. Humans are emotional beings, and when you're not stable... you can very easyly be influenced. However, I wouldn't go as far as say 'games create violence' simply because that depends on the person - and luckyly most people have a decent enough sense of mind to know what's right from wrong.
Qft.

This is pretty random, yes, but who cares.

I'm sure pretty much every cellphone on the market nowadays supports .mp3 or at least .mid file playback, thus letting you apply a custom sound to almost any process in the phone.

So go on and post the music/tone/sounds you're using on yours, discuss them, etc..

As for me, I'm using the last minute of Thomas by A Perfect Circle as my ringtone and the initial chords of Bad to the Bone by ZZ Top as an SMS tone.

Plain sad. Both sides (parents & child) are more-or-less equally guilty here imo. Improper raising brings up the worst little fuckers, plus it's quite rare for someone, especially a kid, to commit acts like that without pressure/influence from his environment. This story is just taking that fact to most insane extents.
His father, Mark, a minister at New Life..
Weird thing for a minister to pack a gun in his house. I smell religious fanatics.
Seriously though, look at the guy. He looks like a loon.
Those swellings on his eyes look like they came from loads of crying. Note the tissue box beside him.
i bet he'll be REALLY gutted when after all that, after murdering those who love him most, ripping appart the family, spending a "life" sentence in jail - finally playing Halo 3 and realising it's utter shit.
Heh, now I'm almost sorry for the kid.
