I see, well then your map isn't bad at all. But I'd start on the next map soon, and get as many real life reference photos as you can.

Well, these "Islamic" fundementalists are using the name of Allah/God to promote their war on the West. And Islam is even stricter than Christianity when it comes to equality and human rights.

Although I think 'The Wombles go Wombling' is probably more dedicated to equality and human rights than the bible.

I watched that program on C4, it was pretty good, they obviously didn't torture the volunteers, but they did give them (and us I hope) something to think of, and I hope it wasn't just a grab for ratings using the plight of the victims in those camps as material.

I mean, what can you really get from torture anyway?
Anything you want.

Should make it easier to cover up their lies about the war huh?

For a first map it's pretty nice. But if it's just your first Source map then it's a different story.

I think the choice of textures "inside" was a bad one. The bank looks incredibly old and abandoned, yet they have new PC's on teh tellers desks.

The buildings at CT spawn look very blocky, and you've merely placed props to make it seem, detailed.

Some of the doors look like they need to be re-adjusted in terms of proportion, very high and too thin.

I'd add more detail to the rooms and re-texture a few areas.

Nice start.

Indeed. I love the way we've simply assumed that because we're not too keen on using the nukes that we're somehow more morally justified in having them. Slips people's minds that we use them as a threat day after day.

I mean, after all is said and done, the Western world have been meddling in the Middle East and Africa for centuries. I think it's about time they had some freedoms of their own.
I've heard the arguement that these people are uncivilised and there'll always be war because it's all they know; but at the end of the day.. who's been selling them these weapons? Who's been funding their efforts to overthrow governments?

It's the West, we being so much more morally just and righteous :|

The problem is money, everything has turned capitalist, and peopel seem to love the printed money more than what it represents: a system of bertering for goods, made to make our lives easier and more efficient.

However, we've since used that time to try and kill each other again and again.

I can't be arsed to type any more. I'm sick of war and I'm sick of the Americans choices in leaders.

In fact, it's the scare-mongering media filling citizens minds with fear and terror.

Anyway.

Ignore all the conspiracy stories for now.

Concentrate on the facts that we can prove:

Escort planes were not scrambled within the 10 minutes they would nomrally have been scrambled once any plane goes off-course in US air space.

The various adminitrive changes made in the build up to 9/11.

The warnings received by the Bush Administration from other governments prior to 9/11.

The links that Bush has with the Saudi Royals, in particular, the Bin Laden family.

I believe that Bush and his cronies knew this was going to happen, they didn't orchestrate it, they simply made it easier for the terrorists to achieve.

The reasons why those young men took it into their hands to kill 3000+ people are varied, but most concentrate on Americas foreign policy, or lack of one.

For decades (since WW2) the USA and it's allies have been pushing their weight around the globe and opressing 3rd world, and developing countries in order to sustain it's capitalist lifestyle: that of greed and over-indulgence.

The US had 9/11 coming, just be thankfull the "terrists" didn't get wise and simultaneosly poison various reservoirs.. they could have killed a lot more people.
There is an explanation why they didn't, and that is, the 9/11 attacks were a purely visual display, meant to shock and outrage; but also to focus the eye of the world on the plight of those responsible.

The problem with half of America is that it still believes that Rambo was a documentary. And that the US support in Afghanistan was noble and honest, and that the US interests in Middle Eastern oil supplies were based on Fair Trade. The list goes on.

Basically, the USA have been using their military and financial powers to support and incite coups and to push power to candidates they feel will be of benefit to the USA.

Great.

For the USA. What about the people living under these dictators? What about the rest of the world?

Anyway, I digress.

I feel that the Bush administration allowed the 9/11 attacks to happen, then covered up as much evidence as they could.

It's worth noting that an operation like the 9/11 attack would have taken several years to plan, fund, and execute. There would have been plenty of oportunity to prevent it.

But their plans relied on a mass terrist attack on the USA in order to provoke the American public into believing that war was the only option left. And that diplomacy wasn't viable. Of course the US was never too big on diplomacy, they liked to point out the corruption in the UN as a justification for avoiding true democracy. All the while ignoring the glaring corrpution in their own assembly.

It took the US two whole months to get into Afghanistan. That's an awful long time considering the Intelligence Agencies already knew Osama was there.
After they failed to find Osama, the second phase of the plan comes in, and that's to finish off Sadam once and for all (Bush's daddy failed, Dubya has to make pops proud..). the links Saddam had to "terrism" are weak, he was not harbouring Al Qaeda members, Sadam is a Sunni Muslim, an enemy of Osama.

Now thousands of people have died, many more continue to die at the hands of American soldiers and foreign terrorists in iraq. the terrorists that weren't there when Sadam was in power, because he was a fucking nutter who murdered people for trivial reasons. Terrists didn't have the balls to fuck with him.

And now the US is turning it's eye towards Iran :| I mean.. Jesus Christ. It's all unfolding now, Syria next, then North Korea, hell, Germany and the UK next. Who's going to stop them?

in Hostile Intent - new mod Post #82450
The point of the mod originally was to continue a project that died. A few of the players took some concepts and worked for several years with the product being HI 1.0

Over time the community has grown and is becoming stronger every day. There are around 30 or 40 servers that run HI, there are however far few servers that have a regular rotation. The benefit of this is you play with the same people you talk to in the forums, and you see the same people again and again. Letting you refine tactics and practice things extensively.

Unlike CS where you can go from server to server for months on end before you come across someone you know. You mention 'Why play HI when I can pwn at CS' - good question. If you love to 'pwn' at CS then HI isn't the game for you. HI requires a great deal of patience and practice. Using IronSights (using the v_models sights to aim) adds a dynamic element, it isn't just about point and click, you need to line up your target and make sure you've got a damn good shot if you intend to kill them.
There's no HUD, so no indication of health - no situations where you're hesitant to make a move because you have 3HP. Take into account that 1 well placed shot with any weapon can disable you, you've got to be careful anyway..
No HUD means no way of telling how many rounds you have left in your magazine, you can only keep track of how many you've fired and reload when you have a chance.
Grenades can be primed, as can Flashbangs to go off in the air as they enter rooms. It's not a case of rapidly switching weapons either - it takes time to sling that AK over your shoulder and unholster your pistol.

The objectives aren't like anything seen before in an FPS mod for HL. They can be anything from collecting dosuments to disarming multiple bombs; disabling antennas and sabotaging equipment.

HI 1.4 brings a Capture the Flag style game mode (along with several others), where teams have to take over areas in order to win, promising to add larger military element to the game.

If you are a true CS player then you probably won't like this mod, if you crave something a little more realistic than a single man taking down 8 people with a glock - then HI is for you.

Simple as that.

Also, HI is great for mappers.

Pretty much open plan layouts, complete freedom.
w poly limits of 1300, and e poly limits of 6500. The detail can be amazing.

in Hostile Intent - new mod Post #82189
There's a new version of the classic Half-Life modification Hostile Intent coming out very soon.

Combining a tweaked out rendering engine and several revolutionary new methods Hostile Intent is by far the most realistic simulation on the Half-Life 1 engine.
Featuring IronSights as the primary aiming method, the first to do so sucessfully.

Over the coming months Hostile Intent will be completely redesigned on the Source engine, so all you saving up for a new PC have a bit of time to get ready :)

The benefits of Hostile Intent are simple:

Unparalleled TeamPlay, if you stray too far alone and encounter the enemy you'll get killed, no questions.

Unique missions, whether it's searching for drug labs in Columbian jungles, disarming multiple bombs in American hotels, or simply just eliminating the enemy threat in incredibly realistic environments, Hostile Intent has it all.

Due to new rendering systems a higher level of poly's can be utilised in the maps. This means that they can be twice as heavy on e_poly (models) and 1/3 as heavy on w_poly (world brushes/blocks). All this combines to produce vast open areas with unmatched detail, never before in any Half-Life modification have you seen this kind of detail:

Things like HE Grenades and NightVision are actually useful in this game. 1 Nade can wipe out a whole team if you're not careful.

If you've had enough of the repetitive gameplay of Counter Strike and the predictable maps and gameplay, then Hostile Intent is for you.

Head over to the home page now!

Once more, get the fuck out with the crates. Kol hit it on the head, wires, consoles, air conditioning vents, more complex lights. Try and avoid all those blue lights and stck with a white/grey light interspersed with a few low intensity coloured lights.

You need to get a crap load of small pipes running along the ceilings and the larger pipes need to have more detail to them like this. Get all the little attatchments in there. wheels and even a few steam spots.. they always look good.

Try and keep up the angled architecture as making it square will ruin it imho.

I like the start, I think Zombies is definately cleaner but also less imaginative in places.

Keep updating.

Can I just say: Black Viper, in order to avoid this kind of shizzle, go to the IRC channel and talk tehre, it will be real time and it'll probably be a lot more polite.

G_KID, there really was no need to rip into him like that. You mis-quoted him a couple of times and didn't give him any pointers on what to do next, just because he's not going to be able to finish this mod he might still want to carry on with a simpler mapping project.

Plus the fact that the Captain gave a pretty detailed reason for Viper to discontinue his idea.

My final thoughts to Viper:

Try making a small map pack, 3 - 5 maps, just to test your actual ability. Then let us see them. Simple.
Also learn how to texture.
All you need is PSP (Paintshop Pro) and Wally (export to .bmp, open and save in Wally as .wad package) and you can become your mods texture artist. There's more mappers than there people to make the things mappers need.

Good luck in whatever you do.

Idd, you need to make those 0.2 textures (HL doesn't liek anything lower than 0.10 on a single face, let alone 40 or 50, which is what this sounds like)

I hope you got rid of teh skybox.

If you use a skybox you will run out of memory, and that's what's happening. You need to rememebr that any face that is inside the map area will be rendered, so if you don't have teh sky cutting off everything on the outside you'll be in trouble.

Set things like paper on tables to func_wall or func_illusionary.

cylinders should be a func_wall, or they should not be allowed to touch any other world brush.

HL can't handle too many complex shapes, I think your engine room might be a problem, looks very complex in terms of shapes cutting into each other. Try getting some models or make more of the stuff into func_walls.

This quiz is supposed to have been written by Einstein. He said that 98% of the people in the world cannot solve the quiz. Could you be among the other 2%?

There are 5 houses, each is a different colour
In each house lives a person of a different nationality.
These 5 owners all drink a certain beverage, smoke a certain brand of cigar and keep a certain pet.
No owner has the same pet, smokes the same brand of cigar or drinks the same drink as another owner.

1: The Briton lives in a red house.
2: The Swede keeps dogs as pets
3: The Dane drinks tea
4: The green house is on the left of the white house (they are also next door to each other)
5: The green house owner drinks coffee
6: The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds
7: The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill
8: The man living in the house right in the center drinks milk
9: The Norwegian lives in the first house
10: The man who smokes Blend lives next to the one who keeps cats
11: The man who keeps horses lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill
12: The owner who smokes Blue Master drinks beer
13: The German smokes Prince
14: The Norwegian lives next to the blue house
15: The man who smokes Blend has a neighbor who drinks water.

The question is: WHO KEEPS FISH?
