in London Riots Post #297646
I've been following this closely myself. I'm astounded by how many people how decided to turn themselves into armchair analysts and deduce that these riots are the work of thugs 100%. It's far more complex then that. There are a great many reasons for the riot, and I'm not gonna pretend that I understand the various motivations of these people until the dust settles.

Another thing that has me perplexed is that when people protest and then riot against continued police brutality, the response of the public is to ramp up the polices power to greate heights? As if it will help? Well, at least the metropolitan police force didn't resort just some of the suggested extreme tactics, just a good old surge.

I'm not surprised Europe became midly anti-American during Bush's reign. If I remember correctly, America itself had a hard time tolerating him the moment he got into office.

The biased "America is the devil!" view that rose in europe during the Bush-era is stupid, but somewhat understandable.
Erm, I do believe that actually started in the middle east, when the Saudi's allowed America to build bases on its soil. I think thats when the whole "America is the devil" thing started. Europe joined in once Bush came along yes?
Yeah that didn't really go so well in fallout 3 :S

He reformed Libya, made it the riches country in Africa. He did more than enough.
Indeed he did, and it was only when he turned batshit crazy and starting killing everyone when they wanted democracy that anyone bothered to commit in getting rid of him.

in Osama is Dead! Post #294191
America does nothing but f*** up peoples countries, when some one tries to do something for the good of its country and it goes against Americas will they automatically become terrorists. Example of that is Gadafi.
Whilst I usually would agree that American imperialism is, at best, incredibly tiring and arrogant (and their allies, who fall into lockstep behind them, urgh) I don't think Gaddafi is really a good example. I mean, its a bit hard to say hes doing something good for his country when he is intent on killing ever last man, woman and child that opposes him (and I do not exagerate here, he has proclaimed he will show no mercy). Even when he was questioned on this, he claimed, iniatially, that his people loved him, even whilst they were rebelling.

So yeah, Considering Gaddafi's rather ruthless attitude to people trying to form a democracy in Libya, I would say that intervention, of some form, was kinda needed.

Going back to Osama, I would agree more with, for the first and last time, Stephen Harper when he said that he felt "sober satisfaction" at Osama's death.

Psilous, I had to read that twice before I can properly understand what you were saying. Is using correct grammar, or even just partially correct grammar, really that difficult of a task? Heck, making it legible even.

On the whole movie thing, I'm not too concerned about it. It doesn't stop people from inquiring about movies they find in stores or learning about them over the net. Nor does it stop ordering over the net or anything particular like that. Though I do wonder if this is just a stepping stone to enforce a greater ban on R-rated movies and what not.
Now, imagine a world without Google.

We'll all plunge back into the Dark Ages.

in Jesus Camp Post #277076
I saw that Jesus Camp film awhile back on Youtube. I heard that shortly after the film's release, there was a real big backlash about it and the camp closed down. Good riddance.

Also, on Hitler. I would say that, had he not been obssessed with destroying inferior races, he probably would've been one of the greatest and most respected leaders in history. Its somewhat ironic that his ambitions that lead him to great power became his ultimate downfall. Even when the Russians were heading straight for Berlin, he tried diverting vital resources to have more people sent to camps.

On religion, I don't particularly care what people believe in. As long as you keep it out of public and, above all else, politics, I'm fine with it.

I saw Twilight, and it pretty much sucked. It's a step up from the book, which, from what I've seen on the Internet and various reviews, is a steaming pile of horse shit. But its still a pretty bad film, as are all teen romance films, or for that matter, teen films in general.

Sorry, I worded what I said somewhat badly. What I meant is that, with the boundaries the media have set for games, this will certainly invoke a serious backlash. And in a time where games are placed under heavy scrutiny for much more minor things, something like this may have a hard time making it to the shelves.

Personally? I don't particularly mind the scene, considering the context. I would say more, but others have already covered it.
