Kinda old, but it still needs bumpmap and specular work, among other small detail adjustments:

It's never occurred to me to do this, but I've never had difficultly w/ rotating the ent to get it where I want it to go. I feel like this would take a little more time to do for not much better results.

Yeah, I guess I tend to forget that firing guns is probably a bit easier for me than most considering I live in Texas.

I have had a couple cheap airsoft and air guns, and just shot at cans and junk in my backyard before, but never gotten a chance to go anywhere and give actual airsoft a play.

What would be a reasonable amount of models to use in GoldSrc level design? I'd certainly like to use models in it, but I'm not sure how well the engine would handle as many props as say, early Source stuff.

If your mouse/keyboard has the option to make keybinds or macros, do it. Esp. handy with Hammer, binding brackets to the keypad, delete, enter, rotation macros. They seem like small changes, but they are incredibly useful.

in Mod's that never were... Post #323642
Mod: Furtiveness
Details: My attempt at a super-anti-hero story. A pharmaceuticals lab owned by a corportation which leads or controls basically everything (think Google, but for your electricity, tech research, resource mines, etc.) conducts experimenting and testing for all sorts of drugs. Not intentionally evil testing, though that branch was operated by some serious idiots, meaning methods were usually ill-founded, results not always pretty or successful.
The player character would be a subject of various pills which were supposed to enhance the user's alertness, reflexes, and agility, sort of like a super energy drink. Instead they did all of that to an extreme, and enhanced his senses to the point where he could (to name a few) see gases, feel and anticipate movements (of living things, winds, etc.) and their causes, hear electrical currents moving, it mostly drove him crazy. Realzing this, he'd assume all of the experimentation at the lab was similar, and begin to sneak around the facility, crawing in suspended ceilings, evading security, and start dispatching of various researchers, destroying research, servers, and just generally trying to screw over that branch of the company in an attempt to keep them from continuing their work.
Reason for Canceling: That's about as far as planning got before I dove right into making maps. Way too ambitious, especially for my skillset at the time, which was limited to incredibly basic mapping. I also never had the story fleshed out enough to really pursue it, nor pitch the idea. I've probably got a few documents and VMFs locked away in old account or HDD somewhere. I'd honestly give this one another shot if I could figure the rest out.

Mod: GG-3883
Details: You're in Black Mesa during the incident. You have to get out. End. This was a bag of ambitiousness mixed with incompetence that I like to pretend never existed.
Reason for Canceling: I constantly encountered issues due to my experimenting with stuff I'd never done before, and it drove me to quit. I'm not a programmer, never have been, likely never will, yet I was constantly trying to mess with source code, and asking around for help with it. I ended up breaking stuff. The mod was also a mix-and-match of assets I'd created, downloaded, etc. Oh, and the mod was inspired when I heard an instrumental demo, and decided I needed a project so I could use it as a theme. This was doomed to fail from the start, and I'm glad.

in Bad light faces with columns Post #323516
then no-clip to where the light is, you will still see the light on your viewmodel
GoldSrc's lighting is all pre-baked onto faces, so doesn't that make this basically impossible right off the bat? I mean I already know it's wrong, that goes without saying ('specially after Jess' demonstration above), but isn't that just impossible because the entity isn't really just emitting light during runtime?

Sorry, not trying to come off as personally insulting, but the issue is entirely in the understanding, here.

It doesn't matter how one defines an entity in general, that doesn't change the fact that func_detail's behavior is perfectly observable in practice. It's arguing a point based on an incorrect understanding of something, completely ignoring what's actually happening.

Pretty much every one here has enough level design experience to know the ins and outs of func_detail, Orange. It's beginner stuff. Your silly, arbitrary understanding doesn't change fact no matter how much you don't want to admit it or understand it. They don't seal the world.

No, he specifically said,
func_detail is not an entity, it just instructs compilers which faces not to contribute to visibility calculation
which is what you said.

And yet, someone said it doesn't count towards entity limit:
If I'm not mistaken, it's still an entity as far as BSP is concerned, it just doesn't count towards the entity limit. Only world brushes (brushes not bound to any entity at all) can seal the world, end of.
