@Archie, maybe a skybox change to go with the texture update. The grass and redbrick walls makes me think Britain. The New Mexico skybox makes me think... well... New Mexico.

Looks like there's gonna be some more HLDM at the weekend 
I'm pretty confident I can get this done within the next week actually... but maybe a two week extension could convince others to throw their hat in the ring?

The first two look a little bit off somehow. It could just be the textures used... but that third shot is awesome! I love it.
The Core is an urban legend, except it's not really urban and sure as shit isn't legendary.
I remember when I mapped with a standard of 6-unit thick walls.I did take a look at the RMFs for Colony42 and was meaning to ask to about that... Like, how our why would that be a thing?

Might be worth looking into. Just the graphics overhaul alone has made New Vegas seem fresh again, not to mention that J Sawyer released a directors cut mod which I'm meaning to get hold of.

I have been attempting to start an evil character in Fallout 4 and it just cannot be done! The voice actor, Brian T Delaney, is just too nice a guy to pull it off. My character looks evil as absolute sin thanks to the in-depth character creation, covered in scars and markings with sunken, dead eyes. However, he sounds like my GOOD character woke up on the wrong side of the bed...
So I fired up Fallout New Vegas and modded the crap out of it to take the edge of the graphics, specifically the horrendous character models. Within minutes, it was so much easier to be a real nasty bloke.
Come on Bethesda. If you're not going to let Obsidian make another Fallout game, at least learn by their example!

It's very much pronounced in the scottish accent and most others for that matter. I can only imagine a full on cockney accent would use the stop.

Very much enjoyed Firewatch. It's a story focused walking simulator, so avoid it if you like action and adventure. I was drawn in by the art style and the amazing voice acting and I've even sat down and done a play through with my wife as well.
I also tried out the original Shadow Warrior from 3DRealms and got my ass utterly handed to me... I likely would have rocked it about 20 years ago... but I'm an old man now.

Motivation almost always comes from other people. Feedback, positive or negative, from the community or in the case of The Core, Archie. It's very good to work in a team, where you can hop on teamspeak and get instant feedback from other experienced mappers.
When starting from scratch, motivation comes from music most of the time. Other times I need silence. It's the same when I write.

There won't be any code changes. This is just a mapping competition.
Sat down to actually make a start on this last night. Ran around a bunch of maps alone, trying to decide which one to work on. Finally made my mind up in that regard.

I totally get where Archie is coming from. Right click texturing in Sledge has always been a little bit off compared to the original functionality. It wouldn't be much of an issue if it wasn't my primary method for texturing.
Archie and I have answered questions like this a few times while working on The Core. I think the best way to go about it is to work on it for a while without worrying what other people are going to think. Make something that you enjoy playing yourself, then work on detailing it (It's not 1998 anymore, Half-Life can handle a lot more detail these days)
When you've got a few maps completed, present them here, or on ModDB and be prepared to take criticism. People know what they like and they will tell you if your work isn't as good as it could be.
Don't get worked up about people who post "This is shit" or "Terrible." They're not contributing anything and aren't worth your time. If you're lucky, people will offer more constructive feedback that you can work with.
At the same time, people who say "Perfect" or "11/10 OMG!" are equally unhelpful. Yes, it's nice to see those comments, but as soon as you start thinking like that, you're going to go believe that you can't continue to improve on something.
