SGU is pretty awkward up until the first mid-season finale.
Once everything cools down between the two generals (the asian one and the old disgruntled one) the show gets better. It's really the major roadblock in the storyline.
There's one specific episode that marks the turning point (in my mind) for the show... it becomes more about surviving than getting home, and its at that point where the show really takes off; it's about halfway through the first season - you were almost there.

I think I cried when SGU was cancelled.
Why on earth would they replace the Friday night SGU slot with WWE wrestling on the SYFY channel is beyond me. Freaking stupid producers. That show had nothing but fantastic ratings even when they moved it to Tuesday Nights.

It followed the story perfectly and you never knew if Rush was good or bad...
sigh. rufee, you brought back a world of emotion for me.

My top 5:
1) Stargate (SG1+Atlantis+Universe)
2) Archer
3) Walking Dead
4) Game of Thrones
5) Robot Chicken

Why:
Stargate is a show that could actually happen. If we found a piece of alien tech like that, the government would take over, cover it up, and dump a lot of money into understanding it. I also feel that the mission planning and general handling of some of the missions would be carried out the same. It's just far fetched enough and there's plenty of comic relief. It's cheesy, but hilarious, and just a well put together show. Atlantis was OK with the overly cliche' baddies and I wanted Teyla to spontaneously combust half the time. Universe was incredible. Absolutely perfect as a modern TV show. Well directed, the graphics were spot on and I think it had the strongest cast even though they didn't rely on previously known roles (Carter, Jackson, O'Neill etc..) Chloe could have been a better actor but she played a tough role. All in all I was very very disappointed that they cut it off because it was at a point of limitless potential - especially when they reached the revelation they had at the last episode... Shakes fist at executives

Archer is pure magic. The comedic timing is always spot on and even the worst episode of Archer is better than 90% of Family Guy episodes. Nothing more to say about Archer than WATCH IT.

Walking Dead is painful to watch sometimes. It's slow at times and some of the people are stupid as shit, but the last season's finale was well done and I can't wait for it to pick up again. There are villains you HATE and when they go down, they go down in style - which is fantastic.

GoT is fantastic. I've read the first book and I was happy to see the first season follow it well. Like all book->show/movie things, you miss some details, but the movies really try to tie everything in with subtle details that would go unnoticed to the general watcher. I highly recommend investing the time to read the books if you're a fan of the show. Upon reading after watching, its easier to put faces and voices to characters and I say reading after watching Enhances the books. It's a fantastic 'ride' if you will.

Robot Chicken just barely beat out Aqua Team Hunger Force because it reminds me of Kablam from my childhood. Extremely stupid sketch/situational comedy complete with highly offensive material = Gold.

Archie - That's good to know about the Avatar Series. I'll have to see if it's on Netflix. I'll need something to watch after I'm caught up on GoT, and I re-watch SGU.

As far as stargate goes, the Arc was supposed to end at season 8, and the producers didn't know they were going to make it past 5. You're right about Heroes too (Amanda Tapping Directed those, and The eps she wrote/directed were some of the best IMO) I loved the 100th and 200th episodes, but I think it would do you well to watch the final season. The last episode of SG-1 lets you see a few things you've probably wanted to see for the whole show. It's a huge stretch as far as possibility, but you made it so far - grin and bear it, you might actually like it.

You don't need the sdk base 2013.
If you're modding for a Valve game, you just need that game.

All the tools are in the bin folder, and launch them with the .bat file. If it's not working, you gotta go into your environment variables (right-click MyComputer > properties etc etc) and remove anything that says VProject.

THEN you can run the batch file to launch hammer properly.

I resigned because, like a fool, I'm taking 2 summer classes again this semester. I gotta finish school ASAP, I'm sick and tired of being overworked and exhausted - the quicker i can knock these last 8 credits down, the better.

I wanna map the world, but i am only one man with too many dedications and too little time. I miss the over-abundance of time and inspiration that was high-school.

I might do a little something something but that's only if I have a free weekend or something. I don't foresee that for a little while.

P.S. everything's in the book :walter:
Electronic copies are cheaper than softcover

There is no common SDK launcher Ep2 anymore.

What would that do to 'off-grid vertices'?
Seeing as how the 'off-grid' problem is really just a rounding error.
Amazing idea but I'm not seeing the benefit unless HLFIX is built in.
Or I'm just not understanding how this won't completely break things XD

prop_dynamic

Plop one down, browse for a model, making sure the related tag* is checked, and you're good!

*Related Tag: In the info tab in the model browser, there are checkboxes for dynamic, physics, and static. Ensure those are checked for the related prop_type.

If you check that example map i set up, i have 4 {textures set to differing amounts of FX amount. Two are 0 and 1. the 0 is not rendered, but the 1 is rendered just as the 255 one.
It was my first time experimenting with those render types too
I just always used 255

Zeeb, if you're working with displacements, block out the basics with cubes before creating the displacements. Work with power 3 because 4 is buggy.

Render Modes:
for instance, in Sledge 3D view, you take anything with the{ prefix and make the BLUE color transparent right? That doesn't exactly reflect the compiled version because in order to make those transparent, you need to set the brush to be an entity with a RENDER MODE of SOLID and an FX amount of 255.
As far as texture mode goes, the opacity is rendered between 0 and 255. 0 being fully transparent and 255 being fully opaque. (AKA Glass: Render Mode= Texture; FX amount= 120) [My default values]

Example Map! Clicky

You can set a render mode to COLOR and define a color with the standard RGB values. The brush will ONLY render that color - no texture information whatsoever. The FX controls the transparency again.

If you render something as solid, the FX doesn't seem to have any effect. So long as the fx amount > 0 the solid will show up 100% opaque and the blue part of the texture will be transparent.

Glow mode only works on sprites - you will get an error if you try it on a brush ("non-sprite set to glow")

Additive is interesting. the FX amount controls the transparency, but the texture whites will 'add' to whatever lighting is in the background. This is pure observational and not fact, as i just did a quick test to see everything.

haha thanks stu! :)
I figured i'd jump into goldsource for a few weeks until i get bored. I have a 2-3 map series im working on. I'm about 90% done with map 1.
Don't expect greatness, i just want a functional map with working scripts and an OK storyline.
Also don't expect custom textures wink-wink - ;)
Also don't expect me to actually finish it. I've had straight inspiration for 3 days so far and that's rare so this might actually stand a chance.
That screenshot comes from a screenshot of a video of my computer screen. Which was cropped and edited with my phone and uploaded to imgur. It's about as lo-fi as you can get but i figured eh, wth, let's upload it.
I'll hit you guys with some better WIPS if i come up with some cool geometry.

everything is very boxy and generic right now while i get the scripts right

Striker - From what i understand from deathmatch, play around with it until you get a feel for the standard flow, and place the basic weapons, small health kits, and small armor packs in the general/high traffic areas.

Put the better weapons in harder to reach areas, OR in major chokepoints / arenas with little to no cover. So if you're going for the big gun, either you need to go FAR out of your way, or you'll most likely get picked off trying.

:) looks AWESOME for GS. Very UT like and i love me some UT :)

Gone Hunting

One fine summer day two gentlemen decided to go hunting in the woods.  One man was Czechoslovakian, and the other one was Jewish. The two men are having a grand old time until they come upon a clearing and spot an enormous grizzly bear.

The Czech man screams and starts to run away, getting the bear's attention. The bear charges the Czech man and ends up eating him whole.

The Jewish man manages to escape the bear and ends up finding a forest ranger station.

"Please help me! My friend has been eaten by an enormous grizzly bear!" shouts the Jewish man.  The ranger comes out and says, "Seriously? Alright let's go find the bear!"  So off they go back toward the clearing.

Finally, they both come upon the same clearing where the Czech man was eaten, only this time there are TWO bears.  The ranger says, "Alright, which bear ate your friend?  Was it the male or the female bear?"

"It was the male! Definitely the male," the Jewish man replies.  So the ranger shoots and kills the male bear.  The female bear runs away in panic.

They get over to the male bear and cut him open.... except the Czech man is nowhere to be found.

What's the moral of this story?  Never believe a Jew when he says the Czech is in the male.
