Just happen to be checking out Source mapping. I've had to kill the Hammer process so much in the last 5 minutes that I'm likely going to stay away from it. Nearly anything I try to makes Hammer freeze. Also placing a "gman overwatch" made it crash straight up.

I'm sticking to GS.

I'm about 40% done.

In more detail:

Brushwork: 45%

in multi_manager Problem... Post #302500
The setup should be like this:

Assuming sequence4 is the path_corner, make it trigger multimanager4.

Let's say the light_spot is named needed_light (lacking a more descriptive name).

Finally, multimanager4 just needs the following value: its name must be needed_light and its value has to be 2 (because that's the delay you want).

You can of course add more values to the multimanager for other entities you need to trigger.

If this is what you have and it still doesn't work, your best bet is to post it to the map vault as a problem map and someone will take a look at it if you ask nicely.

How exactly could I place the italian chicken in my map? There's no func_chicken. Is it a func_breakable that somehow toggles the model (cycler?) invisible?

in Competition 32 Post #302411
I thought of doing an italy-type map too, but the layout isn't entirely mine so I think it wouldn't qualify.

Basically, back in 2002 (10 years ago already!) when I was pumping out CS crap like the assault remake (it's in the map vault, don't make me explain) this classmate came to me asking to compile his map - an italy remake - because something or others. The layout wasn't bad, and it could actually work with a few minor adjustments. The only problem was that the map was built entirely with huge white brushes. No detail and no texturing. I chopped off a part and added 2 textured brushes and abandoned it. Until compo 32 came up, when I remembered it had potential.

I'm still unsure of whether I should go with that or with the other map I had in mind. What's the position on borrowed-ish layouts?

Maybe I'll do something else and upload this one to the vault later on.

in Sound format Post #302316
WON HL does not support mp3, only wav. Also, sounds only play while you are within range (unless they're set to "play everywhere"), and as soon as you walk further away they'll stop. They'll continue where they left off when you come back, so it's not too hard for everything to end up off sync.

in Decompile Protection Post #302266
If there exists such a protection, it would consist of fine tuning your brushes in a way that makes decompilers crap out. Wouldn't know much more than that.

However, if somebody really wants to make a map just like it, decompiling is just one option. They can also rebuild it from scratch. Just like I did here. Not because I couldn't decompile it, only because I didn't know such thing was even possible. Not exactly a time saver, but it can be done.

Didn't you have a Canon FX too? I'm just under the impression that you always go and buy more and more cameras while still not making the most of those that you already have. But that's only an impression, based solely on your posts and photos in this thread.

Why do I always end up arguing with you?

Carry on then, if you know what you're doing. I'm just under the impression that more cameras at your apparent level is generally a waste. But, it's your problem.

For fucks sake just get one camera that allows a slightly finer control over the exposure settings than a full automatic camera and roll with that until you LEARN something. You have like five cameras already. You can even learn from a full automatic camera if you know what you want.

Crollo Trollo Crollapse, stop buying cameras and start using what you already have. What you need is not more cameras, it is more skills.

@Tetsu0 & Archie: Thanks guys. It was indeed done with a large white sheet like Archie said. I don't have off-camera flashes, just one shoe-mount flash (a Speedlite 430EX2). I have a low, white ceiling I could bounce it off. Unfortunately focus isn't as sharp as I'd like, but I couldn't close the aperture further; I was already at f/10 and the flash was already at full power so lengthening the exposure wouldn't have had a noticeable effect. I'm planning further experiments to get these issues sorted out.

There IS a tiny bit of editing but I keep it to a minimum.

Heh, if I were to make such a chart, it'd look like this:

Base mapping: 70%
Detailing: 20%
Texturing: 10%
Lighting: 1%
Entity setup: 20%
Finale sequence: no such thing.

Won't spoil any details. But I require a handful of custom textures and I'm not sure where I could get some :(
