You don't have to read any prisonplanet articles to realize that nobody in their right mind wants to start a war against Islam--which is exactly what Britan would be doing if they somehow staged the bombings.

I'm going with Occam's Razor on this one.

It's far more simpler and likely, that a splinter terrorist leader activted a sleeper cell to carry out the terror attacks,

than

to believe one of the most prestgious intelligence organizations of the free world would suddenly decide it would be a good Idea to somehow fabricate them, therby alienating and who-knows-what else to their muslim population, and the whole of Islam in the process.

You're right. The rotating button is much better because of the 'not solid' flag...you never have to worry about running into it!

You can easily change a texture in the game by using of all things... switchable textures. There are tutorials and example maps on this site, and on a whole bunch of other sites--Google!

In other words, please search the forums/tutorials/google/etc. before posting a question :P

No displaying game_text on a brush afaik.

Yup, I just can't believe I never noticed it b4.

Blue: K. One easy solution, which we used when somebody wanted to use the 'use' key to open his double doors at the same time.

All you do is put an additional func_door over each func_door_rotating you want to use. Make it a little wider than the rotating one, because the user will be 'using' that one.

Texture it 'blue' and make it transparent--solid/255--, and have it moving straight up at a fast speed so you're not running into it--i used 3000.

Have your 'moving-straight-up door's 'use only' flag checked, and have it target the rotating door. Voila! Now the doors will open reliably, regardless of their orientation.

And one other thing, make the 'delay before close' for your invisible doors 1 second lessthan the rotating ones. This way if you want to backtrack quickly from a door you just came through, the invisible door won't 'block' you.

It's normally no problem at all, just for some reason on this map, I've--and you with yours--had the problem. Func_doors are most usually pretty simple.

Later, I might try cutting and pasting the whole thing into a new .rmf, or using hlfix, but I have no idea if either will work. :(
I can freely use the doors while facing south or west but not north or east.
Same problem exactly!!

Like I said before, this will turn out to be something really dumb that's right under our noses, or it's just a strange bug.

Let me know if ou figure it out, and I'll do the same ;)

in Rotating Door problem Post #123244
This is a weird error I can't explain. Mine will open both ways with 'use only' unticked, buto only facing south any other way.

And like you said Blue, it's very strange that you can get the door to open the other way, only by walking up to it, turning around 180?, and then hitting the 'use' key.

If I figure out what the culprit is, I'll let you know in here.

Sorry I can't be more helpful!

Had the same problem with my old Alpine map.

I will hunt around for the .rmf or decompile it to check out the entity properties, and hopefully, an answer.

3 things to try in the meantime:

-make sure you have the latest fgd installed
-make sure you have the latest compile tools installed 3.something
-delete the func door, and hit alt-p to check for problems, to make sure its 'ghost' isn't there buggering things

Isn't disabling fog a cheat in MP? I know in CS it is. Had to use h4x to remove it.

Enabling phys/ragdoll props is one as well innit :?
Ooh, I don't really know! I'm pretty sure I've been on VAC servers mostly, and haven't been banned yet.

I'll have to do more resarch to make sure. I really don't want to by HL2 again! :P

Seventh: Wow that's quite a range! 179-26fps w00t! :)

Llama: I didn't notice much of a performance benefit between Regular and wider aspect ratio, unless I go down to 800?600, then there's a huge increase.

Seventh however is the guru, and will know for sure. Plus he has the same GPU as you ;)
Don't worry about your config. There isn't anything config wise that can get you banned. If it's a cheat cvar you can have it in your config no matter what serverrs you play on, it just wont work.

VAC2 only bans people using hooks. So even commands that arn't cheats but can be abused arn't restricted by it.
Found this from a guy--daveh--on Steampowered formus. Found some other threads which echoed mostly the same thing, but I still haven't been able to find a concrete answer on the subject.

So I guess the message is: Tweak at your own risk

;)

[b]Results from playing with console variables

Video stress test: No noticable fps increase for the ones I tried.

Multiplayer: Hard to say, but probably a little boost. For those who don't know, you can disable how long bulletholes, dead bodies stick around, as well as a whole bunch of other stuff.

The ones i'm using currently:
alias on "
cl_showfps 2;
cl_phys_props_enable 0;
cl_ragdoll_physics_enable 0;
cl_show_splashes 0;
cl_smooth 0;
fog_enable 0;
fog_enable_water_fog 0;
mp_decals 0;
r_decals 0
"

If anybody knows some good ones to definitely use, please tell.

AA/AF brings my fps down to the 20-30's. My friend mark said he boosted his fps from 50-100 range by disabling certain CVARs.

After I try it personally, I'll post my findings.

Please list your specs and test results, as well as any helpful suggestions to your TWHL brethren, to increase performance.

Couple things I tried that I found on some optimization site was to set all your GPU settings towards performance, and disable the ATI poller, under Administrative services, but to no avail. I'm now experimenting with CVARs, to try for an fps boost.

Specs
------

2 GHz Pentium M 760
1 GB 400 MHz Ram
533 MHz FSB
256 MB ATI X600 Radeon Mobility
OS: XP Home SP2

Settings
---------

Screen Resolution:-1280?768
Aspect Ratio:------Widescreen 16:10

Model detail:---High
Texture detail:-High
Water detail:---Simple Refections
Shadow detail:--High
AA:-------------None
Af:-------------Trilinear
Shader detail:--High
Vertical sync:--Disabled

Video Stress Test Results
--------------------------

Average fps:---50.71

I was hoping for better performance for these
specs, but I guess it's ok for a notebook...
or is it?

One thing though, imo the designers took way too many liberties with the original layout. :(
