yeah, it seems like we need some better defined rules, since i'm thinking of all sorts of questions.. i can think of a hundred nitpicky questions to ask, but i don't want to completely suck the life/creativity out of the compo.

My question: do brushes in a 3dskybox count? And hand-in-hand with huntey/tetsu0's questions, could that 3dskybox contain models and displacements?

besides posting screens, you'll obviously need to post your vmf/rmf also, so to be made sure you've adhered to the 30 brush limit, correcto?

Games like CS:S and HL2DM work fine, it's just the SDK that is crapping out...Anyone know how to fix? I realize it's a path issue, but where do you edit that information?

heh pretty cool! =)

I like the design of the map, and those weapon equips are pretty slick. I however can't get rambo to spawn, even whether adding a bot or not. (is there additional 3rd-party mode content i need to make it work?)

Also, the overview comes up for me as pink/black checkers(missing texture?). could you possibly make the player transparent so you only see the hulk body?

don't understand the point of mini compos, i'm fairly sure the process of addition of a proper compo is fairly easy once a brief is written up and a deadline given.
idk, i always felt the point of minicompos were to flex a very specific aspect of your mapping ability in a short amount of time, as opposed to devoting 2 months of your life to a full-scale compo. (i personally fail out of most regular compos because i don't have the time to devote to properly finish it)
waste on a mini compo where winners aren't going to be properly recognised.
True, but should formal recognition be your driving force to create something? idk, personally, if i create something decent, i don't really care if i recieve a formal award.

Zeeba: i like those two mini ideas, and YOU KNOW i love mini's based on brushwork, though i would love to see a minicompo based on custom texturing or anything other than brushwork for a change.

i just thought of something else for map vault.

You ever notice how a site like CNET.com has Editor rating andUuser rating? maybe we could weigh moderator's and of course MV moderator's ratings higher than a normal user, giving a more balanced rating overall.

This would mean tho Mods would actually have to rate maps for it to work.

I think just having map moderators keep track of ratings would be better. e.g., when someone rates a map 1-star and gives no plausible reason for such, it should just be deleted and the user should be warned. If the user gets warned 3 times in a month period or whatever just ban them from rating/commenting on maps.

you could do the same thing for people who spam rate crappy maps, though i don't think that really happens anymore.

Also, sticky a message in the map vault home screen giving some helpful criteria on what makes a rating for a map, since everyone seems to have there own definition of what a map is worth. This way, maybe ratings will be more accurate/consistent if everyone is working from a similar benchmark for a good map.

I know what my criteria for a good map are, and how it usually quite different from another user, but map rating benchmarks are a discussion for another thread =)

I guess i just don't understand enough about electrics to get what your saying, it just seems totally preposterus to me. I can understand if the plant itself failed, but it didn't. Plus, how hard would it be to provide 24 hours of battery backup? i mean, billions of dollars go into building these things, right?

why not put a transformer at the plant? it goes without saying they would have exteranl power available to the plant if the power plant itself failed, but it shouldn't depend on exteranl power.. arent nukes supposed to automatically shut down by themselves if left unattended?

So bascially, my house with a backup disel generator is better more technolgically equipped to deal with a loss of power than a multi-billion-dollar nuclear power plant..

does not compute! =)

ok your logic is from that post that they need external power because they need external power, amirite? =P

i'm saying, why can't the turbines that generate electricity from the plant itself, have a portion of that power stepped down to provide power for the plant?

This doesn't seem very complicated to me, please tell me what i'm not understanding.

in 8.9 Earthquake Hits Northern Japan Post #291832
Tell me if i'm understanding this correctly.

The reactors are melting down because the water pumps are not pumping coolant, becasue the diesel generators which provide emergency power for them were taken out by the waves, after external power was lost.

My question is, If this is a nuclear power plant and creates enough electricity to power cities, then WHY ON EARTH would they have any need for external power to operate to begin with, MUCH LESS diesel generators for carl's sake!

Japanese are wizards of Engineering and innovation, how on earth did they design a nuclear power plant(not one, but 3!) that could be so easily broken?

What am i missing here?

I just reinstalled windows on it's own partition, and i'm wondering, short of installing a SSD, what things i can do to make it boot up as fast as possible.

I've obviously severely limited my startup programs, and i even use a startup delayer to space out the startup items i do have, so they're not all trying to load at once.

Looking for any tips you all have for making your Win7 boot up superfast. I'm researching now on the subject too, and i'll post any solutions that seem to work well. (i'm finding the hardest thing about it is weeding through all the bullshit sites to find true info)

Maybe we can make a little contest out of it, to see who has the fastest, non-SSD boot?

I gave mine 18 gigs at first, started running out of space in less than a day, and eventually had to scrap it all and reinstall again.
If that happens again, you could use a partition editor like Gparted to change your partitions on the fly. I never tried it but i herd it works well..

that error just means you have too many dynamic lights in that area of the map. if your map plays, then you don't have to worry about that error. If you have too many dynamic lights, your map won't even load, and i think the compile might even fail.

I'm willing to bet you have your switchable texlights set up wrong. try copy/pasting your switchable texlights into a small test map and see if they work that way..

hi i'm repartitioning my Cdrive to a minimal size just for windows 7 ultimate, and planning on putting all my program files on a separate drive.

My question is, how much room should i leave for windows, so it has a little room to grow with updates and such. Also, i know a few programs out there that demand to be installed on the Cdrive, so i'll want to leave a little room for them too.

Also, my steam folder, which is currently over 20GB, will be a PITA to wait for it to reinstall. Can i copy/paste my gcf and files to the new steam directory on Ddrive? for that matter, can i just copy the whole entire folder over? (this worked for me for SCII, which i was very pleasently surprised about)

Last question. there is a 10GB recovery partition that came with my laptop. Considering i constantly create backup images for my entire harddrive, is there any reason i can't remove this small partition?

thanks in advance for any help/suggestions! =)
