Of course you'll lose quality. You're scaling down from a 1024x768 video to whatever DVD size is, and then you're drawing it on a telly with 525 lines vertically (haha, NTSC). It's going to look a lot worse. Have you never noticed that the average PC monitor is vastly superior to the average telly?

You have me curious now. What does the DVD-Video spec. say about resolution?

The highest resolution you can make an NTSC DVD-Video is 720x480. Then you've got the crappy 525 lines on the actual telly, so it'll look crap, really.

I've never bought a DVD with advertising on it. I mean, not proper advertising. Obviously they had the studio names, etc., but not, you know, "BUY COCA-COLA". Not unless it was in the content of the film... is that what you mean?

Well, DVD's have ad's in them, we buy them.
What kind of DVDs do Americans get?

You wasted your time, chaps. The counters are a bit out-of-kilter from being deleted in various places. Yes, there's a "topicCount" field in the "forums" table.

I shan't be buying BF2142 largely due to this. What the fuck just beeped at me? Regardless, yeah, I don't want to be playing in "the future" and suddenly, in the middle of the mothership or whatever they're called, find a Coke advertisment. If it were a modern-day thing, like BF2, and the place was clearly a place to have advertisments, I wouldn't care and would just think of them as atmosphere. I guess that wouldn't sell anything, though. Just add a touch of realism to the scene.

Adverts in modern-day industrialised city environments, fine.
I believe that the game more than makes up for the ads. Animations, graphics, lighting, textures, all amazing. THe new Titan mode is fun as hell, and the v_model weapons look astounding. I do find the ad's annoying, though.
You paid for the game. If it was free, fine, silly ads ahoy, otherwise no.

It's probably a browser disagreement. Is it fixed-width too, while the rest ain't? You know, same amount of horizontal space for an "l" as an "h"?

Anyway, that's a horrible hacky thing and will be much better in the future.

Did the idea for more preview screenshots of a map in the map vault dissolve yet? or will we be able to post pics in the map description by linking them?
Something like that.

Anyway, this isn't a final feature list. Once TWHL3 is up, it'll be much easier to add things than it is to add to some of atom's older and more minimalist code (it's a miracle some of it isn't all on one line for "efficency").

Yes, it does. Either that, or you'll submit the changes, and then all the mod has to do is glance at it and click "alright, yeah" rather than having to get the tutorial file, hunt through it, correct it, re-upload it and change the modification date in the database.
hmmm, a twhl "team" option would be cool... As in, if you decide to make a little modding team, it would outline what the mod is, who is in it...
That would be the Projects section which I've mentioned and is half-written ;).

Oh, and quote button: good idea.

Nah, just a page that lists all the topics you're subscribed to. Kinda like an RSS feed viewer, but, you know, without the RSS. I'm pretty sure it's in various forums.

Then again, maybe I'll have an RSS feed. Undecided.

Anyway, I'm pretty realistically expecting to make decent progress now. Intend to knock one thing off the list per day, on average.

If you do your research, you will find that the new features in both are not much different from each other.
No points for correctly guessing which'll be more used.

Still todo:

General
  • Customisable front page (selection of sections to show, etc., and perhaps count adjustment for different resolutions)
  • Statistics page
  • "Allow remember across PCs" check for "invalid cookie".
Resources
  • Inline tutorial revisions by authors and moderators, perhaps with submission of drafts as well as suggestions
  • Members tips, moderated before posting, can be appended to tutorials
  • Multiple page tutorials
  • User-submitted tools!
Community
  • Extended profiles (lanaguages spoken, XFire addy, PC details, etc.)
  • Javascript bbcode helper
  • URL checking for maps in the MV (checking that the headers for the path return 200)
  • Good search stuff for maps, fora, others
  • Full navigation ranges for MV, etc.
  • Mass PM handling
  • Proper quoting
  • Specific bbcode ([map]id[/map], etc.)
  • Timezone converter by member
  • Ranks or similar
  • Spam protection
  • Some colour code control
  • Better MV icons
  • PNG transparency avatars
  • Read receipts for PMs
  • Birthdays
  • Proper special threads for competitions (custom thread icons denotable by moderators)
  • PM block list
  • Server query stuff
  • TXT thread-save dilly
  • Thread subscription
Administration
  • Detailed access control for moderation, allowing, for example, banning a particular user from shouting, commenting on maps, etc.; perhaps using groups too
  • Togglable e-mail registration thing for tough times
  • PM to users when their threads are moved, etc.

I'll be getting a Wii mainly because I have a PC. PC will always lead in terms of graphical quality, so why would I bother purchasing a console that pretends it's on top of next-gen graphics? I'd rather get something that tries something different.
