Open the console and type r_speeds 1 and developer 3. If your w_poly hits around 800, it's ok. Over 800/900 it gets laggy.

He's trying to make something like in Surface Tension where you mark a spot on the tactical map to bomb, and then by pressing a button, make a bomb drop in the desired location. Only in this case, he wants it to be a crusher and not a bomb.

All unofficial mods are considered third party games. Official mods like Counter-Strike and Gearbox are second party, and first party is anything by VALVe.

Count me in.

Since it's for HL2, I don't want to put too much effort into mapping as of yet so I can take advantage of the HL2 engine and editing features/models/etc. (And so I can finish up with some other projects in the meantime ;) )

...which is why Gamespy and all those high-speed download sites for pay are a joke. They make money off of other people's work, and the creators don't get a portion of the profits, no matter how large or small.

You could also open halflife.wad in Wally and type c3a1 in the filter box.

I've used a few prop models, like the chair.mdl that comes with NS and some other small prop details such as bottles and equipment that the workers would have left lying around in incomplete areas that I haven't screenshotted yet.

@pepper: I'll get in touch when I can get a playable version up and running. It's a fairly small map (5players/team) so it shouldn't take ages to finish.

Because there isn't action in the first few levels, until the resonance cascade, and then it spoils the story. With that c3a1 level, it has a mix of action and puzzle solving and is a goo' demonstration of the game.

Well in the original HL the little bomb sprite and trigger_hurt, etc got triggered with the func_mortar_field, so just trigger a func_door that moves all the way down and moves to that location? I'm not certain if this would work, and you'd need to fiddle with the lip value on the door to get it to work.

Not possible, you cannot combine entity types in the Half-Life engine.

If you wanted to make the breakable items stationary, you'd use a func_breakable.

Are you using env_weather or rain conveyors? On an env_weather, this would be caused by the sprite, if it's very dark outside then the bright sprite will appear er, bright...If possible, try reducing the fxamt on the env_weather, this will make it more transparent and might help.

To make a car shape, you'll have to do some tweaking with Vertex Manipulation and the clip tool. Experiment, and read the tutorials on them, and you should be able to figure something out.

I considered them, but I don't particularly like using big gigantic ones as level "architecture" .

Maybe some pipe models and clip brushes in tandem could work well to cut down on some w_polys. I'll look into it some more tomorrow.

I'm already riding my r_speed limit here (850 something, which is suprising as it seems like so much more in-game :D ) so I can't really do much in the current shots in terms of architecture, but if I could, there would be some damaged floor bits, maybe some exposed floor pipes, etc.

I'll get y'all some more screenies as soon as I finish the ready room, which will be soon.

Never really a reason for not registering, just didn't get around to it.

Er, hmm...just managed to get IRCbear to log me on, though I'm experiencing the same thing...this happens when a channel is nonexistent (try going into #blah) or if Marvin is gone from a channel along with everyone else, - it appears blank, you won't get the topic, etc. Somehow, he must've timed out and never came back...

So, to put it short, HL will come with loads of building 'fabs, though they won't be used in this modification.

Y'know, from a look at the CS: Source beta, and the associated files, what I've seen of Dust in terms of elements of architecture, there are things like fences, windows, and other certain special high-poly elements that are in model form for easier implementation by the mapper.

The weapon purchase system was extremely successful and very innovative in the mod scene.

At the time (long ago) it probably was very groundbreaking in terms of models, though now, if I was VALVe, I'd license Natural-Selection.

Uplink = a part of the game that never really fit, in VALVe's opinion, so they made it a demo! Put c3a1 in the filter box with halflife.wad loaded and you'll see what I mean.

I personally have an immense liking for Surface Tension. Though Blast Pit and Questionable Ethics are close runners-up.

I'd strongly recommend making terrain by hand as it offers more flexibility and power over what you can do. Cliffs made with programs like GenSurf and Nem's Terrain Gen often look un-cliffy, in my opinion.

There are RE maps/packs for SC.

As for favorite played map, it'd have to be ns_eclipse...KungFuSquirrel is a mapping god, and it shows in eclipse.
