compiles always take a long time. for test purposes, using no RAD and fast VIS will reduce compile times. just remember that if you don't compile RAD, your map will be fullbright, so if you want lighting, try a fast RAD compile.

well, Microsoft have tried so goddamn hard to stamp out music/video piracy they have basically blocked all content, legal or not.
dx10 wont be mainstream for game devs until next year, probably. people are still using dx9 engines, source, doom3, unreal3, etc. (not sure if unreal3 is dx10 compatible atm)
until these engines are updated for dx10 or new engines are written, games will continue to use dx9.

i heard you could activate an OEM version 3 times before it becomes invalid, but i have no experience with that because i have never used it. and i have read on some tech forums that vista recognizes any hardware change. advanced security and such. but of course it came out yesterday, so nobody really knows that much about it yet.
but theres really no need to blow your top over it.
eventually everyone will have to upgrade to vista, but i will give it at least six months for them to fix major bugs before i think about using it permanently. i mean, you could wait a year or two, but i want to play crysis when it comes out

all you have to do is import the pic, make sure 'auto create VMT' is on, then save to your materials directory.
