is entirely false. thats only if you have dsl or better. i have dial up and get 5k/s on downloads.
I have dialup and get 30k-50k/sec. connections on Steam. That is screaming fast for a 56k connection.
One great thing bout steam: you need it to play NS3 which totally 0wnz over NS2.
Yup! Ns3 r0x0rz! Although it is still in beta stage and it screws with my Gamma like UnrealEd does and makes everything bright.

in Question about hint brushes Post #43385
I dont see anything wrong with it, the side with hint is just the line where the visgroup is split. What tutorials say that? I dont remember the two on Countermap (Relic25 and someone else) saying that, and they are the two most accurate ones.

No, there was focal point, then power struggle, then leap of faith. Remember, you have to go align the focus emitter thing first (Focal Point) , then they lose the power so you have to go recharge the battery (Power Struggle) Then once the power is back on, you teleport away. (A leap of Faith). I think that's how it goes.

It is a different chapter. It's called End Game.

Hence, the level name of c5a1. (Chapter 5 Act 1)

c3a1 is 'Forget about Freeman'. Xen starts at c4a1.

For the record, I'll proceed to name all the chapters. I've included the HL/BS level names too, I cant do the opfor ones as they are more complicated. Note on the BS ones there is a number after the map name.

Half-Life:

Black Mesa Inbound (Or something of the sort, you never see a little title) -c0a0
Anomalous Materials -c1a0
Unforseen Consequences -c1a1
Office Complex -c1a2
"We've got Hostiles" -c1a3
Blast Pit -c1a4
Power Up -c2a1
On A Rail -c2a2
Apprehension -c2a3
Residue Processing/Questionable Ethics -c2a4
Surface Tension -c2a5
"Forget about Freeman" -c3a1
Lambda Core -c3a2
Xen -c4a1
Gonarch's Lair -c4a2
Interloper -c4a3
Nihlanth -c4a4

Opposing Force:
Welcome to Black Mesa
"We are Pulling Out"

in Resource Files? Post #43309
They are used in MP to tell servers to send custom content to players if they dont have it (ie, custom mdls, sprs, sounds, etc)

As Wally's site puts it:
The server changes to your custom map, or a client connects while your map is on.
The server looks for a RES file that matches the name of the BSP.
The server loads the RES file and looks for images/sounds/stuff that need to be sent to clients.
If the client machine does not have the specified file(s) (or the file(s) are not the same date/size,) the server will send them to the client.
Once ALL files referenced in the RES file are downloaded by the client, the client connects and is able to play.

Yes. The issue of decompiling is that you are tampering with someone else's work, which isn't good. If you want to know how a certain setup works, you can often contatct the mapper and avoid decompiling.

We have tutorials on most things related to entity setups, etc. so its better to use the site as a resource than to decompile.

Very excellent. I agree with Haz, though, the screens look a little empty. I think some detailing such as a few road signs, broken streetlights, or as you said, jacknifed vehicles, burning tires and such.
rabidmonkey, can you make texture all drawn by yourself.??
I don't have a drawpad, so I just modify bits of my photos and royalty free reference images online and end up with bits of things like in my texture pack. Some of the textures are horribly useless to most mappers (Like teh eagle wall) but theyre in there just for the heck of it. Once I get my digicam working I can get some more uploaded.

I don't consider myself a huge texture artist, but I could modify some of my photos to create textures from...I have a couple places I could get some old ugly carpet/office-ish textures from... cough*Air Force Base basement*cough. I seem to have a cold, that was a looong cough ;) . Go see my site if youre intrigued. (About the AFB, not the textures. Off topic but oh well)

I have some black rubber-ish textures (would you need them for a tire tread? I have those too), porcelin textures, some building ones, old signs, and I could mod a good 128x128 sidewalk one from an existing texture.

I also happen to have Swat3 and it has a huuuuge texture library, so I could modify a few of their textures.

Dynamic lighting should be supported in HL2 and I'm hoping for a 'movewith' feature or something of the sort.
