Ok so you made a map right?
The map must contain a light, env_cubemap, info_player_start and of course no leaks.

Now when you have all this in it you click compile and tick the boxes that say run VIS and RAD. Then click ok to compile...

If all goes well then the .bsp should have been created and placed in the HL2 maps folder.

Open HL2 and press ` to open up console, type map name and if it loads then good, then type buildcubemaps in the console to tell the game to render light and reflective surfaces.
Your map is complete and ready to be shipped around the world

Anyway if it works tell us and if not explain what you did.

Ha ha I remember those, I tried making one follow a path but there is no sounds so I spent ages looking for the sound and then I gave up when I couldn't even get the sound to work with the legs.

Hi habboi I just started making maps, can you let me know where I can get more textures like brick walls and detailed stuffs ? anywho I have made a great map but find it hard to detail it, I dont know how to make textures, im better at designing map scenario's than doing the artsy stuffs,...can you help ?? you talented gooroo you

How can I help? Is it for HL1 or HL2...

and the Map Vault is ok and holding well.

The annoying thing is the textures cause they are bigger than they should be in Source e.g. I made an aztec map ages ago and tried converting it to Source but all the textures I used were massive so I had to resize each one and it took forever so no!

My mate had the exact same problems and he figured out that it was his crappy GFX card which was busted so he got a brand new one.

I must admit this was not how I planned it at the beggining but hey changes are good. Ok about that question:

It may be computer intensive but instead of joining the rooms adding more wireframes, I am keeping them seperate and coving the outside with nodraw so it is not rendered.
So to get to each room they must touch the profile of the person to teleport there.
(There isn't going to be one huge room with all profiles but each room will be on top or near to each other and each room will have a little corridor with a random profile.)

Currently I have SariBous, Seventh/ Anthony (cause they look the same :P)
Next is Rabid and perhaps Zombieloffe or you G_kid.
Just to stop confusion i'm posting pictures of another room to show you that each room is different.

I wanted a sort of oriental theme here (kind of dojo)

I have promised to myself that I would make one room per day so it should take me 30 days or more to finish.
If I take too long on a room each then the project may fall and it allows me to make a basic structure per each face.
Some people have asked for a certain room design and that is ok. Provided it is reasonable...

Oh and G_kid I guess when you start a big project you try your hardest to cope and get it done well.
I'm in a really happy mood and it's the least I could do for TWHL! I would give my life for it for many reasons.

Listen Mr, if you want respect then stop making threads that sucks bandwidth.
Just ask in the shoutbox and honestly try to figure these things out yourself like 3/4 of us have!

If you try things, fix them until you get it working then you will get much better at mapping rather than dpending on us...
We can't always solve problems and we're not here 24/7 so try and figure these things out.
If you noticed in my thread 'I need your pictures', then you will have seen my post saying oh dear i'm spamming a bit so I will stop unless they're are questions or more than 5 comments...

That is a wise decisiom and if you do the same then you will be respected. Your not the king here so stop expecting everyone to help you. We have minds of our own and in time you will learn the ways of a TWHL'er like I did.
I'm not perfect but you should have seen me when I first came here ha ha. I was such a noob : I wrote stuff like: yo i am habboi and i like to map. do you like my map? hey you asshole i dont care what you think of my spelling just rate my bloody map...

Thats an example of bad grammer and i've been here for nearly a year now and have majorly grown since then. Thanks to TWHL I matured and learnt many things when mapping.
I soon wanted to repay them so I made a few examples.
And now I am making a DM map for them all because they're such great people!
If you don't change then yes you will be banned like some people in the past e.g. anonymous and Habboi Lover

Banning you would make Seventh's job easier because he doesn't have to delete threads made by YOU!
So do us a favour and just straighten up or leave.
We are a nice community and every now and then some silly twit comes along and speaks slang and spams.

Sure questions are welcomed and we don't disagree with that but constently making threads like these just angers us. Also the way you ask questions and your body language is really negative and it puts me off.

To map for HL2 all you need is Hammer 4.0 (The latest one)
If you use Steam then you should have an application called SDK. It should be in the games list right at the bottom.

Well i've finished it and i'm rather happy with it...
Each room with have a relatively small amount of detail because there are so many faces and so many rooms that it would lag ever so much!

Anyway here is a final shot...

I did have your picture as func_rotating but it looked odd and kinda korny so I kept it still.
It has fairly good architecture with a few arches, clipped walls and some nice lighting.

Don't think that all rooms are going to look the same because I want to create a different theme for each person I have.

I mean I don't really mind having 0 music cause it means the final download size is reduced!
Can you imagine the size of the file when people have to download the textures, sounds and map (the map is going to be huge with a room for everyone :P)
