First question:
Does the height of the skybox walls/ceiling determine or change any lighting characteristics when using an light_environment?
No
Second question:
Does the height of the skybox walls/ceiling effect map r_speed or performance in terms of user FPS?
Erm.. i was under the impression it does.

I could teach you how to map for Jedi Academy, Rowleybob.
It's very easy considering it uses the same engine as HL1.

(although both heavily modified the engine in different directions, the basics are the same)

why is HL1 still popular?

Because Hammer 3.5 is fantastic, whereas Hammer 4 is a buggy pile of crap.

Unfortunately, i advertise myself as both an HL1 level designer and a Source level designer, so when clan's ask for maps, i generally have to put up with hammer 4 >_<

But really, Half-Life 1 is an astoundingly good game which is nothing short of fun to map for.

ok, what you need to do is create a cube with rendermode texture, fx ammount 0, so it's invisible.

you need to make it a func_wall_toggle, and you need it to start invisible.

Place it in* your playerstart, and trigger it to toggle 0.01 seconds after the map loads, that way the player cant move at all, but can rotate his head.
  • it should NOT be hollowed. It will go "in" the player when it toggles.

it's a power adaptor.

The 2 pin connector thingy is a universal.. 2 pin connector thingy. The block just connects it to the single pin which would go in the phone.

and since it's a SKY texture, I highly suggest making the scale X:Y = 2.00.
That will do nothing.
if you have an Entity / Point Entity / Global wall somewhere just sitting out in the VOID space area.

This doesn't happen all the time, but occasionaly does...
Of course it happens all the time. No entity can see the VOID, or you get a LEAK.
Um u could jus make two separate boxes around the rooms and hollow them!
do not do this.

Just load the pointfile.lin, follow the line, and seal off the leak.
And fix the skybox.

HL1 of course. i never do anything serious in Source.

But my map dm_geekconvention was going to feature hoth, and star trek.. however, the map breaks several limits already, and i've only done the star trek part, so i doubt the hoth part'll make it in.

Get more custom textures in there for god's sake. actually, do you want the ones i made for my hoth map?
