Blue Shift started you off with the suit as the item_armorvest and item_armorhelmet act as batteries. Remember, in Opposing Force you had to collect your suit from the infirmary at the start. If you want to have the player wander along for a bit before they get the suit, just place the item_suit where they should get it from.

For future reference, there's a worldspawn flag I believe to start with an HEV suit. That, or the info_landmark has teh flag.

lol. Also, if i'm correct, doesn't Spirit enable reflective surfaces? And not the fake ones with 2x the polys, but real, reflective ones.

You can pass through due to a hitbox problem, I'd assume, so just adjust the hitbox to make it bigger.

Hmm....I tried VM, but it's hard to do without getting invalid solids, especially when the pipes bank, slope and turn. Fun stuff. The little method worked better, it looks pretty good.

Texture mode? Seems most likely as it'll render the water semi-transparent and as long as the tank or whatever is under it isn't fullbright, the water won't be? Worth a try.

It's easier to add details and just make the model look better than it's HD counterpart. Reskin the models. Remake the gun holster on barney, redraw his ID tag, give him a radio, give him a little strap around his helmet and stick things up there (cards, smokes, pics, etc, lol). little details like this can improve the model and give it a more realistic feel. Or change the hgrunt heads. Like my av ;) . (Not mine, BTW, but from the HIT site.) Speaking of HIT (Half-Life improvement team) They might be a good resource for modeling. Google 'em.

Add a spawn point.

"WARNING: monsters/bear/beardeath.wav is causing runtime sample conversion"

My guess is it's an invalid sample rate or format so it screws with the sound. Fix it.

Can you name certain map sectors? For example, when RabidMonkey is running down main street and shouts "fire in the hole" will it say "RabidMonkey (main street) Fire in the Hole!" or am I just playing too much Unreal and this feature is nonexistent in Cstrike. I coulda sworn I've seen it in action before, but I might be not thinking correctly.

Didn't decompile, but opening a map has literally the same effect as opening a decompiled map.

And yeah, you caught little BspTwoMap, my decompiler. Better than shudder WinBSPC. I only use it to figure out how something was done in a map if I'm really stumped. I think that's fair, as I never take anything from the maps, I just see how a certain entity setup worked or something.

And yes, I still have HL on my cluttered desktop. Along with my editing tools, (which happen to clutter about 1/4 of the screen and contain tools for about 7 games), AIM and Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, and you can make out DoD up in the corner. Isn't it such a pretty desktop? :lol:

And my apologies for the bmp. Paint defaults to a .bmp and I forget to change it. Always. To make things worse, my image host doesn't put restrictions on what types to upload.

I had one that gave me an insanely large (i.e 5k+) error because of the dumb Q tools and Hammer. Don't remember why. (this was back when I was new, hence the Q tools) and I also posted a shot here of a hammer error loading a .map that gave me "Due to errors, 1750406 solids were not loaded", which crashed my computer.

Monsters can't hit brushes unless you use spirit, then check the flag for removing yellow dots. They only show up in developer mode, also, so if you want to bury a monster, just make sure the player doesn't run HL with -dev.

If you have enough RAM, and it's a big map, run it with -particles 80000 or something big...it won't load em all on huge maps. I've ran it with -10000 before and it didn't load all of my points.

Ah, perfect. An excellent rain tut by Seventh. And I'm not worryin about lag on my map, as I've planned out my hint brushes and visblocks, and it's more of a visuals map, less so on friendlyness to slower comps. It's only gonna have a tad of rain though, so it shouldnt lag too much.

I'm working with 1.5, as I'm a 56ker, 500meg (approx.) downloads are a bit much for me. It was hard enough to DL 1.5 and my Battlefield updates. (read: 500 tries, server cuts out and erases my dl at 99% with a DL manager...:zonked: )

And I'll look around for the scrolling method, I think there was a texture wad that had rain textures like that somewhere. Thanks.

Is there an easy way to make rain? Easier than an info_target and sprites? I'm making a map in CS with lotsa outdoor areas and I want the rain to be everywhere, (not indoors) but I don't want to set up hundreds of info_targets....it'd take forever! Any ideas?

And Black Mesa seems a lot like A-51 doesn't it? Desert Location, High Security...the list goes on and on. And there ARE pictures of A-51 out there....Arial photos, Base Pictures from before they closed access to a spot where you could view the base...Pretty awesome stuff. So yeah, a few people know what it looks like if you hunt around enough. Just some hangars, barracks, personnel facilities on the surface. Usual for a military facility, dontcha think? Dunno what (if anything) is underground....

Yeah, I'm mapping for Cstrike. Oops. Although the Invasion MOD had a drivable tank that actually handled like one...not a tracktrain either. A fully drivable tank. 360* movement, free driving...Wheee!

Mmm....nuclear reactor maps. I was never good at anything lab-related as they usually involved either icky textures or too much work with special effects and light details, instead of world details, since labs are very clutter free, you have to show off by using entity skills. Something I was never good at. Of course, if it's a Post-Disaster map, you can do some really fun stuff.

Yeah, but the player itself can get screwy and just stop working well, causing skips. I remember when DVDs first came out, we ended up getting a cheap 50$ one...After two months, it wouldn't even play our new DVDs. Then, I picked up a Ps2 and it plays my DVDs pretty well, along with all my games and audio CDs if i feel like it.

Ah, you speak of the room across from the G-Man? Yeah, I think they used point lights and just toggledthem, with lights on and hitting the off light texture, it looks the same as being on.

And for NS, it's only one of the best Half-Life Mods available - Natural Selection. Check it out over at Moddb or naturalselection.org

Have you played it by popping it into your CS maps folder and then running it with map "mapname"? (no quotes). If it freezes then, then we know it's a map issue or something. If only the server freezes, then it might be a server side issue.
