sorry saco, bad typo. I meant sympathy for the hard work i put into it.
The concept isn't entirely original either, after week 3 i realized it was almost metroid prime. (whom i loves thy concept) (Subconsciously)

Not all the sounds are ripped, i made almost all of them. I know few were in there like the rocket stuff mostly and the footstep sounds, cuz i didn't want to record my own. I did plan to replace them if needed. Like the title screen.

I'll just put this on the shelf for a while, but i think i bit off more than i can chew for now.

If anyone wants to use any one the content, be my guest. I know the guns can go to a more stable mod someplace.

Which brings me to a new point, I think i'm able to participate with other people's mods. I said that in the MV, but just restating.

I can join the modelling effort with the whole car and truck thing that's going on :D

I don't think anyone noticed the extra skies in the mod directory. I can make any sky i can dream of.

I know, not the greatest. I don't do this for the benefit of respect, i do this for fun and experience. A few maps around here that i've made were partially experimental.

In the spare time that is free from NOT modding, i could map more HLDM maps, paint more pictures, or do a hugely awsome artistic render of a palace in 3ds max with all the shiny glory of it. I like that last one. :roll:

er...

the mod has a lot of backtracking when you get new items that unlock areas of the game. i thought to keep the maps as contained as possible but that's not too possible now. The demo is kinda a mock-up of the whole game, in a way.

You could replace a weapon with a new model, new sounds, and your set. problem is that you have to sacrifice a gun. i wonder if there is a tutorial someplace that shows how to add custom guns from scratch. :

edit: There's one at verc, but it involves 8 pages of code. :(

The Demo map is nearing the end of its construction phase. Soon to be done with the entity work as well. Not too much time.

Demo Completion: 88%

Turns out that since i can model all sorts of stuff, my mod will feature a few new unique Xenite Aliens i've been thinking about for the longest time since the start of the mod. Also, some revisions have been made to the Flare Launcher, which is now a Flare Drone, launched directly from the player's hand. Other such "things" have also be made but will not be in the demo with reasons to great to bargain with.

The demo runs about 2 minutes for me running through it fast and its also incomplete with no enemies. There's a few puzzles and thinking involved, but nothing outrageously difficult. This demonstration examplifies that you (the player) will need to search more often for ammo and items, as well as explore previously visited areas with new equipment to open up new sectors of the Turnstillion complex.

That being said, the overall map count is now 25. (not counting intro or ending) I figured this is a good amount since you loop around a lot to places you've been.

The Trees from Posion Garden are ripped from Day of Defeat. DoD has many plant models available, but if you need more, search the net. You'll turn something up.

elon yariv, was it you who asked me what camera i have?

a quick tip about texturing is to set up a good library of base textures like stones, bricks, grass, crete, etc. Most of the magic is worked in photoshop simply combining the bases together and coloring, contrasting, or sharpening them to the way you want them. even someone of limited knowledge of photoshop can do it since its all about layers and layer modes.

DCC is my room mate. He lives 23 feet and 11 inches from me.
He is an incredible interior/graphic designer and is helping me out in exchange to teach him how to map. Like me, he wants to get into game level design.

He might join TWHL once he feels ready. Might not go by DCC, he the kind to change nicknames every other day. :x

You'll see what a little teamwork can do once the demo is out. :nuts:

DCC has forbiddon me from posting more screenshots until the demo is finished. I assure, i want to agree since things are looking really damn good, even for my standards since DCC has a lot of input and logic to this.

Mapping is slow. Roughly 43% done. Minor setbacks 'cuz i got the model tools i needed and i half to re-do some things.

Resourcefulness is a virtue well exploited...

Y'know, i should make a thread for modding tips, basic advice . I have quite a bit to say from what i've learned recently.

Screen shots are important to hold your crowd. I give off as much as i can, but since the demo is near, i cut my audience off to build some tension, then the demo will release and people will get it with higher interest.

I meant larger pics, i knwo the source maps pack a lot of detail that is missed in the screeny. Lots of other websites do it and its nice to see lots of big screenies, an overhead view, and other things.

hopefully the abilities checklists in the profiles will show up again only more detailed, as i already said but it's not on the list.

Here's a good one:
Multiple Screenshot slots for Maps. like 8 or so, but make these optional, or if you want to cut down on the loadage to twhl3, make the extra pics only linked to elsewhere. Have one primary that will show on the vault page and more will show up in the map details. This will be nice since we all have seen map screens with 4 tiny little preview screens.

Yes and no. Turnstile will play best on wonHL, but IS compatible for steam as well.

Its been a day or two of searching and i still can't find the studiomdl.exe that compile model transparency. someone must have it somewhere. :x

ugh... i'm conflicting myself with too many ideas and problems at once. I'm trying to accomplish what i can but just having a fit of mapper's block. I need to recalibrate again.

p.s.
How important would music be? i think it would add a little to the intro and such, but i can't play mp3's and the quality and file size of a wav is horrid.

i had a similar problem with my new comp's stability. I just updated some grpahics drivers. Double check what you have and make sure you have the latest version of the driver. That might fix it, but it might not. Or its some connection with your mother board. heh, it could be a lot of things. :

I believe in evolution and all of that, but our human-self design is too different from everything else. If we came from monkeys, why are we so much taller than them, and wouldn't our relatives evolve at some sort of similar rate. I think we were placed here by aliens.

HL2DM is too easy to the point where i killed an entire clan on my first night playing. Either they were noobs or just plain stupid. Or i had good beginners luck. I stopped playing it that night because i got bored with it unbelievably fast. I hope some amx mods come out for it.

CS:S is pretty cool. But it's just CS with graphics. I didn't find it as awsome as everyone says it is. That, too, i got bored with.

The rest of the night, i spent playing DoD ftw.

I'm all for this if i get to submit some hl1 prop models that would be common to all of the modding going on around here. Stuff that'd be tricky to build and texture in hammer or too heavy on the engine, but deem worthy of being a prop.
