I think the whole phrase is a bit of an oxymoron, specifically the third and fourth words which are a total contradiction.

I think the phase 'the whole half' is downright stupid as well ;)

you want to MANUALLY compile a map? You can't just write compiled map code, it'd be like writing a program in machinecode. I can't see why anyone would want to, unless you want to - somehow - generate your own lexical/syntactical analysers!

God no, everyone's first map is usually a poor attempt at doing that, and you eventually realise that a map of your house is really boring for everyone except yourself

Theres good and bad ways, and then theres just realising that for most intents and purposes you should just use a model.

I thought it was well lame dude, it was all like, 'whatever' and there was no 'hello, im mapping over here' dude, you should be more PRO active and less RE active, the grunts were never 'speak to the hand', I would've accepted 'no way man' too.

Put simply it needed more clich?s.

Random tiling textures, that start with '-0' through to '-8' were designed for the software days of halflife, the engine will take the texture and try to randomly tile it across the face. Supposedly good for large faces, where repetition can look ugly.

This is all well and good, except it doesnt work in opengl, so DONT use any random tiling textures! If you absolutely need to, just rip them using wally and rename them in another wad. :)

I spent at least a whole day bashing my pc because it wouldnt compile the bloody map, and because getting a player to go 'up' a level using ladders tended to cause getting thrown to the floor and dying horribly
