in HLRAD 3.0 crashing? Post #90591
it just shows the message "HLRAD has encountered an error and will be closed"

i checked the compile logs and HLRAD isnt even recorded. just ends at HLVIS. the rest of log looks fine, no error messages or bad values.

i downloaded and installed ZHLT 3.0 final, but HLRAD keeps crashing. HLCSG, HLBSP and HLVIS work fine. as a matter of fact i switched back to HLRAD 1.7 and everything runs fine. did i get a bad download or something?

most older macs are set up so that the motherboard fits into a slot. you can easily remover the entire board and install a newer one. as a matter of fact i think theres a site that makes custom G4 and G5 motherboards to upgrade older macs. good luck on finding it if it exists.

i like my LCD. no radiation, unlike those Cathode Ray Tubes, which give you the same dose of radiation that you would get if you worked in a nuclear power plant. its true. they do give off radiation.

dont wanna ruin my cute face so im sticking to LCD. plus CRT has been around since the 30's. time to get something new. like those 56k modems thats are all the rage these days. drools over the thought of getting another AOL CD

VM is a total nightmare in radiant. takes forever if your working on more than one axis. i tried making a map for CoD and i just gave up after the first few objects. makes me appreciate hammer a whole lot more. sure hammer may have its problems and shortcommings but it has a very good interface.

not to mention that it cant even properly hollow a cube. you have to build everything brush by brush. and if you think carving is bad on hammer, dont even try it on radiant.

clipping and VM work great in place of carving and give u more control. when im making a complex 3D object, ill use 4-sided pyramids for VM. because all the faces are triangular, there is no chance of making an invalid brush.

if it comes to reformatting, back up all your files on another hard drive or put them on CD/DVD. i believe windows has a program that does that but its windows so who knows if it works even.

we have an iMac G4 at home and we havent had to restart it in months. just leave it running and it works fine. i wish my PC could be like that. i have to restart every few days or else everything just starts crashing.

Your PC is a Dell with integrated graphics and I have no doubt that theres no AGP socket, only PCI,
lol my pc is a dell and its got an AGP card. but its a laptop so once its becomes obsolete i cant upgrade it :(
Posted 19 years ago2005-02-05 21:23:06 UTC
in A graphics card Post #88452
AGP is better in my opinion cause u get a dedicated bus for the graphics card. graphics cards using PCI and PCIe have to share the bus with other components such as the sound card. that increases the chance for errors and corruption. plus cards dont even use PCIe even close to its full potential. so no real difference at least not yet.

doesnt matter that much. what really matters is the amount of memory and the clock speeds. also important to have a good cooling system especially if youre looking at overclocking it.
